Im just wondering if there is different kinds? I want to get some here soon and i called my feed and seed rock/garden store ann they didnt have slate and only got peat during the spring. I will see if my LFS has that stuff but rather get it from a different store since the price would probably get way better

Just keep looking around, and make sure you prep it before just throwing it in the tank. So I wouldnt buy online because you'll pay quite a bit for shipping. Do you have a Lowe's or Home Depot around?

I used slate straight from a garden wall. A few smaller pieces stacked works great. I scrubbed it and washed it with vinegar too. Helps kill germs and anything else that shouldn't be in your fish tank.

my LFS has some for $2.50 a LBS. But i figure i could get some else where without the "from aquarium use" price. Home Depot and Lowes are around here i looked at there sites and it didnt look like the same slate people use. Wasnt skinny and thin it was thick fat slabs

I use flagstone type slate. Had it for 16 years and still looking great! Got it from a local nursery. :fish:

I picked up my holey rock from a landscaping supply company for $0.19 a pound. I'm sure the slate was even cheaper so I'd check those sort of places out.

Yea holey rock is $3.50LBS. I figured out what i was looking for. The guy at the LFS was bored and chiseled slate really thin made it look a little different like cut up roof shingles.
