If you do not have access to direct sunlight you will need a decent muli-spectrum light.
- need decent nitrate level
- leave the light on for 8+ hours / day
- very mild water movement
This should work - I do my algae growing in a low flow tank in direct sun with some decent rocks. Use water from my tanks whichever had highest nitrate level (usually the turtle) and add filtered also.
I then pull a rock for my pleco's every now and then as a treat.... my mbuna's seem to like it too!
Luck!!
