Can flourite or eco complete be used with a undergravel filter or a plenum chamber. If it can what are some of the pro's and con's.

I can't think of any pros of using an UGF with a planted substrate.

Get rid of the UGF...

Generallym UGF's are not used in planted tanks, The plant roots clog the openings in the UGF and cause them to not work properly. This leads to a buildup of toxic substances under the plate which will negatively impact your tank. It also does not allow for proper root development as the depth of substrate must be limited with a UGF for it to work effectively.

I wouldn't use a UGF in any tank, let alone a planted tank.

UGFs are outdated technology, imo.

Definately not in planted tank because roots need to spread.

What about plenums ? Are they better to use ?

I thought plenums were used in salt water tanks.

I have only seen them used in SW and viquarium type setups

Just learned the difference between a planted tank and a tank with plants, more than likely I will be going with plants in pots mostly because of the cost of substrate like flourium or eco complete.

I can see I have a lot to learn before I do anything... :sconfused:

Well that makes it easy, I wasn't aware that they were for saltwater, Thanks :shappy:
