View Full Version : Should I be worried about this?

I've owned my first tank, a 25Gal fresh water, for about 8 months now. I haven't added anything new to it since mid-January when I added a couple dozen Neons. About a 1 1/2 months ago maybe half a dozen appeared out of nowhere. I now have more than a couple dozen. As snails go they're prtty small 1/4 inch at most and they look pretty similar to these although they're more brownish in colour. What concerns me most is that I have no idea where they came from.

No reason to worry. They will multiply like crazy though. Vacuuming them out with your regular water changes works to control the population. They didn't come in on the fish, so you must have added something like a live plant to bring them in. They won't hurt a thing. We have them in our 10 gallon tanks.

The snails came from the LFS. There was probobly a batch of fis that wasnt properly sanitized, and there are bunches of snails.

If they look more brownish than that, they are malaysian trumpet snails, and they are livebearers and will help keep the top of your substrate clean. I just vacuum up the ones that go in the glass and decorations and it keeps them under control. go easy on the feeding to help control how fast they reproduce

Don't worry, those don't look anything like the malaysian trumpet snails I have seen.....those are much more conical. Snails really aren't a problem unless they overpopulate, then they can add quite a bit to the bio load with hundreds of them. Don't overfeed your fish and they won't multiply as bad.
They are very pretty snails, mine are all brown and dull looking, but the puffers don't care!
