William, you said you travel around alot so i was curious if you have yet been to the amazon and seen the fish that live there because if so and if you have pictures you wish to share i would like to see them if you wouldnt mind

William

No. I havent but I am moving to Nicaragua near the border to Costa rica in 1.5 months and I will than hopefully get a lot of pictures to post here (will post in the blog). I'm guessing that I will go to Costa rica quite often as it is a fish and cichlid paradise.(I'm also hoping to get to dive with whale sharks and Manta rays.)

I posted some pictures in my blog from Guatemala and a swamp there but did unfortunatly not get any UW pictures that time (williams blog at the bottom of the menu)

Don't worry. I don't intend to be eaten. Losse a arm or a leg to a shark maybe, but don't get eaten.

William, before you started travelling when u had alot of fish what was the biggest tank/pond/aquarium that u had

William
04-14-2006, 07:26 PM
Only about 300 gallon. Couldn't fit anything larger in my apartment. I also had two 145 gallons, 1 70 gallon and 2 40 gallon tanks and a few small 10 gallon tanks.

Full3R
04-14-2006, 07:30 PM
i see, well good luck with settin the new ones up

William
04-14-2006, 07:35 PM
In due time. I am afraid it will be atleast a year before I get new tanks :-(

Full3R
04-14-2006, 07:37 PM
thats gotta be depressing, well atleast when ya finally can get the tanks you'll have been around the world and decided wat u want aye?

William
04-14-2006, 07:46 PM
Yes. But on the other hand it's almost worse since I get to se a lot of great fish that isn't available in the trade. Would like to be able to catch some of them and keep them.

Full3R
04-14-2006, 07:48 PM
if ya allowed that is

William
04-14-2006, 07:51 PM
Who said I would ask for permission ;-)

It's usally not a problem as long the fish isn't Cites listed and even than there is usually legal ways to get them in their native countries.

Full3R
04-14-2006, 07:53 PM
o like your style, now i gotta find a "legal" way to get Restricted fish into aus

William
04-14-2006, 07:55 PM
Well. You got a nice predatory fish that is hard to get out of aus. The Australian lungfish.

Full3R
04-14-2006, 07:57 PM
yeah the protected one, wouldn't it be hard to look after tho?

William
04-14-2006, 07:59 PM
So so. It's not a good beginner fish but is not that hard either. The problem is usually the price.

Full3R
04-14-2006, 08:00 PM
is he on your list of fish to buy when ya tanks a set up?

William
04-14-2006, 08:02 PM
Yes, but a bit down on the list. There are a lot of other nice fish I can get for less than 750$ which an Australian lungfish usally cost.

William
04-14-2006, 08:02 PM
If it is large and predatory it's probably somewhere on my list ;-)

Full3R
04-14-2006, 08:08 PM
You gotta get yaself a barra aswell there the life of the party and they go great with oscars of similiar size

William
04-14-2006, 08:17 PM
A few barramundi is definitely on my list: I just have to get a few 10 000 gallon tanks to keep what I want in.

Full3R
04-14-2006, 09:24 PM
it seems so weird for me coz i 10, 000 gallons to me is alot but your so casual

William
04-14-2006, 09:41 PM
Yes. It's a lot, but I have just come to the conclusion that I will have to get atleast that size to be able to keep the kind of fish I want like the Arapaima. I have simply gotten used to the thought ;-)

Full3R
04-14-2006, 09:42 PM
wish i could get use to the thought, Arapaima are said to not survive long in captivity

William
04-14-2006, 09:56 PM
Spending time in cheap/poor countries help one to se new things as possible, and to egt use to the thought that you can get things you didn't think you could get before.

Arapaimas do survive in captivity with the right care but most peopla who get them does unfortunatly not have the capacity to keep fish like Arapaimas. Especially not when they start to grow. Much of the fish in trade is today pond breed fish so one doesn't have to hurt the wild population by trying to keep them.

William if u havent been here all ready this would be a place to for some good fish shopping

http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/travel/Norfolk_1cChina_.Beijing_Arcade.html

Wow, long link, sorry, but copy and paste it to a new window and look at the fish and the prices of them

William
04-15-2006, 07:03 PM
Yes thats a nice store. A little crowded but nice assortment of fish.

I edited the link to be a little shorter. Most of the original one was just the google query not the link to the actuall site. You can choose to just displaying a link text instead of the entire url if you want when you create a link by using the following code
[url=http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/travel/Norfolk_1cChina_.Beijing_Arcade.html] fish stor ein china [/ url]

the above code will create a link that simply looks like the text below

fish store in china

if you remove the space between [/ and url]

Just a little tip that you can use if you want to. Both ways are fine with me.

William Have you ever thought of having your own TV show like a documentary where u travel to different parts of the world and look at all different fish ??? thatd be neat

William
06-06-2006, 02:47 AM
Not really but you are right. that would be nice. Might have to unpack my camera.

Full3R
06-06-2006, 06:01 AM
Do it! you should carry around a small tank of about 20 gallons and where ever you go try and catch some wild specimens and keep them in the tank whilst you want to and take pics then realease them back when you leave that way you can have more easier shots to take and plus you can still have an aquarium

Jupp. But I welcome that you two make a guest apperance in it ;-)

Full3R: I would prefer to have a UW vidoe camera before doing domething like that but they are unfortunatly rather expensive.

06-08-2006, 08:18 AM

William
06-08-2006, 08:59 AM

You know things like a nice car, my own island .... ;-)

Full3R
06-08-2006, 09:21 AM

DemonShark
06-08-2006, 08:20 PM

William
06-08-2006, 10:14 PM
lol. Actually a carribean island isn't "impossible" to get and i checked cameras and that actually was cheaper than I thought. who knows, maybe I end up getting one after the summer.

DemonShark
06-08-2006, 10:16 PM
the camera or island?

William
06-08-2006, 10:26 PM
Perhaps both but I meant the camera. My guess is that the island will have to wait a year or two more.

DemonShark
06-08-2006, 10:27 PM
lol

William
06-08-2006, 11:41 PM
but to perfectly honest I would be happy just finding a nice house in this part of the world that I could live in more than maybe 6 months before moving.

DemonShark

William ive sent you a picture of a fish that got sold to me as a blue acara but it seems rather agressive and to me it looks like a juvenile green terror the seconds one i have is exactly the same in looks only its the most peacful fish i own apart from my ghosts

William
08-15-2006, 06:22 PM
Hi.
I just answered this in a pm. I think it looks like an acara but might be rong and t might very well be a green terror. Would need a better pic to say more.

Full3R
08-15-2006, 06:29 PM
