yesterday i went to the local walmart for some new filter carbon (lfs is about 45 minutes away) and saw an albino veil tail oscar for 12 dollars. i have been planning to get an oscar for a 100 gallon, and didnt really know about veil tails. are they prone to being fin nipped or need low current? i want as much info so i can know if i should get it or not.

Any fish with long fins can be subject to fin nipping.
An oscar will fight back but the fins will take the brunt of it.
Its not a community tank fish.I would keep that fish in the 100 with a pleco and nothing else. The fins will always look great that way.
Also please do some research on the subject. Great to ask here but also use Google for some additional help. As far as I know none of us have personal experience with Veil Tail Oscars.

I have a veil oscar at the shop...its fins are not I guess as long as alot of them get but for such a large fish it does have long fins. I to would keep the fish to itself or with maybe some bottom dwellers to preserve the quality of its fins. Also veil tailed oscars are not as hardy as regular finned oscars due to the crazy inbreeding it requires to get the veil variant. Care is like any other oscar, they need clean well oxygenated water and a good diet.
