I've been trying very hard to ignore the "Hinney" flu (H1N1)...but the media coverage and fear-based prevalence makes it impossible.

I started feeling 'off' on Sunday, slight sore throat, muscle aches, but not bad...and it's not getting worse...just not going away...and NO fever...so I didn't think it was the flu...

But yesterday I found out you can have this flu at least, with no fever! Who knew?

When I googled it, I see there's some controversy - mostly centered around having mildly infected people out and about, spreading the virus - instead of sending them home to get over it completely...('they're' only concerned if you have a fever and/or a really bad cough).

Just thought I'd share...I don't know what I have - not saying I have H1N1...just found it interesting that you could have a flu and no fever...

That is very interesting. I didn't know it was possible to have a flu and no fever. Plus, your "hinney" remark made me giggle!

I got my hinney shot 2wks ago. I could get it because I'm diabetic, but I wanted it (stalked my doctors' offices for it) due to the lung issue I had posted about previously. That didn't put me on the "she can get the shot" list, but that's why I wanted it.

Anyway, thanks for sharing that information. I would bet most people did not realize you may have a flu even w/o a fever!

AND, mostly, I hope you are feeling a lot better soon! It's no fun to be sick anytime but especially on a holiday. Sending feel better wishes to you!

Thanks! If I was going to get really sick with this, I'm assuming I would have by now...so I'm happy it's mild.

I was going to get my flu shot too - I'm asthmatic...but I missed the call for last week...and this week they've opened it up to everyone...but now I have to wait until I'm over whatever I have...lol...it get's complicated.:hmm3grin2orange:

At least I have time to be 'sick' this week. I've finished my lectures...I can work on the exam from home...

We all went through it here.At least thats what I think!
My youngest had it the worst.
He didn't realize until he was in a hockey game.He had to hustle back for the puck and nearly passed out.I took him to the hospital that night and said he had a cold.
After we got home he developed a fever of 104 that lasted four days.We were able to break the fever here and there but it kept coming back.He did throw up a little but not much. His cough lasted for just over a week.
My oldest son got it too but no fever and little nausea.
My wife was bad for about 36hrs.She was real dizzy and also devloped a bad cough.I felt like srap for a few days but it was nothing serious.
During that time over 3/4 of the high school was awy sick too. There were many H1N1 cases in the Hospital.
The MD that saw my son said it was just a cold that was going around.
They didn't even draw blood.I hear the test for it has something to do with shoving a tube far up your nose and it hurts like hell.
I think MD stands for Me Doctor and thats about it.
I am happy to say that we are all fine now!:19:

I heard with this flu you get ranking coughs. Not easy to contain when people are coughing all over others.

NG - glad you're all on the mend! thumbs2: We've all had 'something' too - and it's been very mild except for hubby - who appears to have a really bad cold he can't shake (he's all stuffed up, and coughing), I think he's had it 3 weeks now...

Hobbs - that's just it...you can't control something like this...if half the people don't know they have it - but do a bit of coughing...they're spreading it as well, even if they're being careful!

Good to know about the no-fever flu! Kind of scary, since I know the policy at our church is that kids can't come to Sunday school if they've had a fever within the last 24 hours or are otherwise obviously sick. If the symptoms aren't really obvious (fever or nasty green snot), it'd be pretty easy for someone to just not mention the kid isn't feeling well and drop them off anyway. Yuck.

We're skipping on the H1N1 vaccine here... I've read enough stories about pregnant women miscarrying within a few hours to a couple of days after getting it that I'll take my chances. I tend to stay pretty healthy anyway, plus my sister-in-law had H1N1 during her pregnancy and she and my nephew are both doing just fine. My little guy isn't in school or daycare and he's never shown any tendency toward respiratory complications when he gets sick -- not to mention he hardly ever gets sick. I try to get him some reasonable exposure to germs (gotta build that immune system somehow), but he's a tough little cookie. Hubby is healthy and also tends to have pretty good immunity, so we figure there's no sense worrying about a vaccine when others may need it more. I'll definitely be on the alert if any of us pick up flu-like symptoms without a fever, though.

Yeah...just so you know...and if you do end up with a feverless flu...you can still have other flu-related complicatons...so do watch out if the coughing gets out of control, that kind of thing...

None of my kids have gotten the shot...they don't want it...
