So.. my tank is up and running after the cycle finally finished. thumbs2: And my fish are doing fine and so are my shrimp... one already molted in the shadow of my filter. I had expected them to hide in the small caves between the rocks but none of that... they're walking around sometimes hiding behind plants etc. They are really beautiful when you can see the whole of them when they are walking on rocks. (Maybe I can add some pictures later.)
Now I have a question, could I maybe add 2 more fish or some more shrimp? All though my white clouds swim around tirelessly my tank still sometimes looks a bit empty, especially around the bottom. Is there any possibility of adding another species of fish?
I think you can safely add 3 corys to the bottom if you keep an eye out on your water parametres...

I do really like the Corydoras but isn't the temperature too low / fluctuating for them? Right now the temperature might be ok but when I get a heater for colder times I plan on setting it to 18 degrees C.
Hmm...I'd have to check...but I think they'd do fine at 18C...

wrong. 18c is 64 degrees farenheit. Corys are tropical, and need 78-80 to survive.
Your tank is barely 5 gallons, what do you have in it now?

Extra shrimp will be fine. It's pretty hard to overpopulate a tank with shrimp. You can literally have over a hundred cherry shrimp in a 10g with a standard filter with no issues.

Yes I know...but some tropicals tolerate a wider temperature range than others...
I have kept them in an unheated tank...again, for years. Rightly or wrongly they were in with the goldfish while I had the goldfish upstairs. When I switched the upstairs tank over I left the corys in it...

Thats an awfuly big range. Thats what, 14 degrees below optimun teperature? It cant be healty for them. Just because humans CAN smoke, doesnt mean its necesarally good for them.
...there are ideals...and then there are options to ideals...
I prefer the ideals myself...when I'm aware of them...but sometimes things work out well even when they're not supposed to...
I'm just offering options...as food for thought! :)

I have to go along with drummachine on this one......what you already have in a 5gal tank is probably about it. Smaller tanks can take a nosedive quite quickly and there isn't much water to dilute any toxins that may get in it.

Yeah I figured, I just have no idea what a maximum amount of fish is for any tank. My white clouds seem to be doing fine (except one) like this so I'll probably just add a few more shrimp. Thanks for all your replies.
