plant suggestions please :)

It's for my 15 gallon, which will be home to dwarf puffers, ghost shrimp and perhaps a few snails(while they last)

aquarium sand substrate, no power heads or Co2 injectors or anything like that.
temp is 78, ph is 8.
low light - 15 watt bulb (not flouresent)
needs to be easy to care for and does not need to grow fast, just want it to help control nitrates (besides the weekly water changes) since they remain on the high side after a 50% water change.

Anything fit those requirements?

java moss and anubis nana are two very forgiving low tech plants . you might try those some of the slow growing mosses as well, but the names are escaping me at the moment.

Java fern as well. Unfortunately, none of these plants will really be nitrate sponges under low light, but they will certainly help keep the levels lower while oxygenating the water.
