He was sold to us as a ryukin, but I was looking up his type of fish online and he sure doesn't look like a ryukin to me. He has a single tail, a very fat body, no googly eyes, and no "cap" like an oranda, etc. would have. We're getting a 20g tank and my son would like to get a black moor as a tankmate. I looked up whether ryukins and black moors could live together and realized that he probably isn't a ryukin after all. I can post a pic if that would help.

Thanks!

Yes, a picture would help tremendously... I have no idea what he might be just from the post, but I bet with pictures, the people here can help you figure it out http://www.getsmile.com/emoticons/smileys-91853/aiw/yes.gif

Please pardon the tank--it's in an algae bloom. And he's not sick, I'm not sure what's up with his eyes in the pics. Camera flash maybe.

Thanks for guesses. :)

i would say it has Ryukin blood because of the high back & dorsal fin. its definatly not a "show quality" ryukin which you might be looking at online. i searched it on google and the first entire page of images is just that.
i think a black moor would be a fine tank mate, though, i have 0 goldfish experience, someone will know.

and it very pretty btw, love the tail

And, I agree -- a black moor should be a fine tankmate http://www.getsmile.com/emoticons/smileys-91853/aiw/smile.gif

i agree with Jill. Had a goldie just like this (sharks ate him, long story :/) They make wonderful friends for the black moors. :goldfish: :fish:

I think a 20 is a bit small for 2 big goldys but if you must go that way then add nothing else with them.Make sure you keep up with tank maintance as well.Fancy gold fish are succetible to water quality issues, there long finnage and the moors bulgy eyes will suffer greatly from bad water.
