So, I'm cleaning out a truvu aquasystem 55 I bought a little while ago. It was previously a SW tank, looks like it was really lightly used. I'm most likely gonna be going FW with this tank, If I do SW itll be way down the line. Should I replace the bioballs with say filter floss? half bioballs half floss? there are also 3 rolls of a very large mesh sponge, I'm just wondering what some other people would do for filter media, cause i can stuff this thing with whatever the heck I want...

I assume the Wet/Dry trickle filter is under the tank in the stand? If so, no need to use anything else, the bioballs will be fine.

It's actually built into the back of the tank, here's a link to the exact tank. But if bioballs would do the same job basically for FW then I might as well reuse them, I've cleaned them really well, I doubt there could be any potentially harmful residue. I can't see much difference in this setup or having a sump under the tank, am I right? heres a link to the exact tank [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]

Bio balls will work great for the biological filtration. The sponges will do the mechanical.

yeah, pretty much what I figured, I'm gonna stuff a bit of finer floss in there too, the sponges are a really big mesh that wouldn't pick up most smaller particles. I think all in all it'll make for pretty good filtration, the pump that came with it is almost 700 GPH, so it'll have pretty decent turnover

Looks like you're good to go. Welcome to the wet/dry club. :hmm3grin2orange:

thumbs2: Bioballs will not need replacement.
