View Full Version : Bah! I hate potty-training!
I knew he was too good to be true! :hmm3grin2orange: The first two weeks Job had practically NO accidents in his crate...I was so impressed...
And now he has several a day! *argh* (Just pee...)
I'm not doing anything wrong either...but I will take in a urine sample on Saturday (we have an appointment for booster shots) to make sure he doesn't have a bladder infection...and if he doesn't - I'll have to make the crate smaller to give him less room. If it's not one of those two options, I have no idea why he's peeing...he's certainly going out often enough...
Meanwhile, if anyone has any spare newspaper...send it my way. We don't take a paper, so I'm out scavenging from helpful people...(blush)

That is odd, Rue! Most puppies will not mess their crates, unless there's no choice. He didn't at the beginning so I'm thinking the crate size is not an issue.
I can't "donate" any newspaper...all mine goes for bird poop!
Well...I had a big stack of newspaper stockpiled for the bird cages...but he's used almost all of it up this week!
I almost hope it's a bladder infection...maybe a couple of days on antibiotics will cure it...

Oh, puppy training!!! It's not fun but obviously, the puppies are worth it. My hunch is this is just a small bump int he road and Job will be doing his business exclusively outside in no time!

I think it'll probably be something like an infection...easily fixed.:ssmile: If not, maybe diapers may work????:hmm3grin2orange: Sorry, I just couldn't resist...I remember the frustration of training dogs!!! How's he doing when he's out and around the house? Does he seem to know where he's supposed to go yet? I always found that an "accident" was wasted if it wasn't used as a learning experience. We've had two dogs...we got the Schnauzer at 4months, and it took six months to train him. We got the ShihTzu at six weeks and it took three weeks to train her. However, the Schnauzer was absolutely trustworthy from then on, but the ShihTzu had "accidents" if she got nervous, usually in other people's houses.:help:
His 'in house' time (family room only) is only in the evening right after a potty-break - and is restricted to the dog half of the room...it's a privilege he has to earn...so far there was only one accident (2nd day we had him)...
I think it's a small bump in the road too - he's only 13 weeks old...but still...I am using up a lot of paper this past week...:hmm3grin2orange:
There WAS a good reason I had originally wanted an older puppy!
However, I am pleased at how well the other three dogs accepted him - with an older dog it would have a lot more work on that end. I still remember when we got Celeste...(she was 7-8 months old).
BTW...I had him out for supervised playtime with other three dogs while we did chores...there is something disconcerting about Celeste dragging him around the yard by his neck...:ssuprised: LOL...I mainly got him for her to play with - so glad she's appreciately the gift...thumbs2:

Cut back on the water at night!
It may help.
I hope he is ok!
He's cut back from drinking after 8 p.m....it's not helping...
I hope it's nothing serious, whatever it is, like diabetes...
He looks and acts healthy, so I hope it's nothing, or something very minor...
Heh! I called it! :19: It IS a bladder infection. I'm glad I had them do a urinalysis...I was thinking I was just being neurotic. Need to learn to trust my senses.(blush)
Our vet is in another town, a 30-minute drive away...we got a call back from them JUST as we walked in the door from returning from their office! :sconfused: Now I have to drive back to pick up his antibiotics...*argh* Good thing I didn't have any firm plans today.
I don't want to wait though - they are closed tomorrow...and I don't know if I can swing by on Monday, so it would be Tuesday before I made it back there...so best if we go now...
We're off!
Hopefully in a couple of days his potty-training will all good!thumbs2:

I know Jasper hasn't had any deer but I am willing to bet that it is very comparable!:hmm3grin2orange:
Maybe it's just as well you live too far away for us to get together and find out...:hmm3grin2orange:
Celeste is better today - tummy looks more normal and she's not sleeping as much...
