Yesterday My angelfish laid eggs on a leaf of one of my sword plants. Some turned white and the guardian fish was cleaning those off. The rest seem to be viable and appear to twitch a little. I showed the neighbor lady and she noticed that they were moving. I thought this to be the current from the filtration so I shut it down and looked again and sure enough the eggs still appeared to be twitching. I removed the other angelfish and put that one in a seperate tank as that one was being constantly chased off by the one who is acting as the guardian.

I have never had an angel fish spawn before it just -- happened. If anyone has any pointers as to how to care for my new fish family I would love to hear from you.

Congratulations!!! I think other members can give you advice about the eggs (I don't know much about angelfish).

The parents may start moving them here and there so if you don't see them don't be surprised. Hopefully they won't eat the eggs and you'll have some babies in a couple weeks.

They will hatch in 3 days or so from laying. The fry will be swimming a day or two after that. You will need to have food availalbe for the fry. Newly hatched brine shrimp works well. The parents may or may not care for them. Let them try, the pair will lay again and again. The net time you can be prepared for it.

Where would I find newly hatched brineshrimp? My local neighborhood fish store doesn't have live food. Is there something else I can use as a substitute? Should I turn off the filter when they hatch?

Babies should go in their own bare bottom with a sponge filter so none get sucked up. Brine shrimp is just eggs. You do the hatching yourself.

Try calling a few stores in your area to see what they have for live or frozen foods.
Congrats on the spawn!thumbs2:

Here is another of the mother with brood of fry

This successful breeding was accomplished in a planted 20 gallon tank using a soil based substraight. No costly equipment needed here thumbs2:

this would be a good time to get momma out the tank before she realizes they look like lunch

First run left babies with mama and bit by bit they just vanished. Second spawn took both parrents out of tank and again bit by bit the babies vanished. Third run used a low output filter and babies vanished the same way. The longest they last has been 9 days. Could use some help here.

You might want to try moving the wigglers to a bare bottom tank with a sponge filter. so
the fry can't caught in the substrate or sucked into the filter.
