Alright, picking up my 125G tomorrow, and it wont be able to be setup for probably another month (promised I wouldn't do it until we are moved in and unpacked) but I am already planning out the tank.
I am thinking of having two corner filters placed behind some sort of background, possibly a styrofoam one, maybe something else. In the middle of the tank between the two I think I will make a wall covered in some sort of moss. Hoping to make the corner backgrounds large enough to also utilize a heater, and the outputs will probably go to a UGJ system. (I really like trying new things).
At this point it is a very fluid plan, so I am open to any suggestions. I am not even sure what is going in the tank at this point, but most likely will be some mix of african cichlids, so the filtration is going to be a huge part of this.
sorry that was so long, I'm excited. Now before I got too carried away, is the corner filter idea just silly/naive on my part, or a viable option as the only filtration in the tank if it is done right?

Yeah I've danced along that line a few times myself. When she starts giving the fish dirty looks I know I need to spend some extra time with her...:shappy:
And saltwater is a LONG WAY down the road.
Love the enthusiasm!:19: Keep it going!

So where are you taking her out for dinner ? :hmm3grin2orange:
aji what kind of corner filters are thinking abour for a 125?
I would go with at least a Rena xp3 in each corner. If you can fit an ac110 on the back you would have great filtration.
If you make a styro background leave some way to get a vacuum in there. Those corners will really collect debris.
Sounds like a fun project!thumbs2:

Oh for the filters I am thinking of making a DIY sort of filter that actually sits in the corner. I do like sump setups but am not too fond of running one on a tank that is not pre-drilled. Will see if i can draft up some ideas this weekend and post them, were supposed to be snowed in so I should have PLENTY of time.

I often sit and look at my 3- 55 gallons sitting side x side and think how stupid is that! I'd have saved a bunch of room just having a 125 gallon or even one 125 gallon with one 55.
I so envy you that nice big tank. You will be dying to get it up and running!
I have two thoughts:
If you only had one tank...where would you move your fighting angels to? And secondly - you could get a big tank when you move! Right?:14:

Look into overflow boxes, or DIY overflow pipes... I highly recommend a sump for a larger tank. My wet/dry cost about $30 to make and works better then most filters 15x the price. Especially if you're looking at a high bioload.

um...what?
Sorry I don't understand this at all. I don't have any angels, and this will be my fourth 100+ gallon setup if you count the ponds.

Yeah I know sumps are cheap, aside from the pump. Just made one for my 225, and it was fun, but was thinking of trying something different. Almost like a small in tank sumplike setup in both corners.

LOL, I dont get this at home, my wife INSISTED that we take the tank from a neighbor when they offered, so she realizes that she is partially responsible for my obsessiveness. I didn't even initially want to keep fish, but now I LOVE IT.

Certainly makes it easier when the significant other is onboard. My gf had one 10 gallon when we met, and now she has that, a 5 and two 29's :19: She REALLY wants a blood parrot, so I think a 55 is in her future :11:

With women, it's better to ask forgiveness then seek permission. Set it up asap. :hmm3grin2orange:

haha no trust me, I NEVER wanted to keep fish, my wife came home with a 10g setup a few years ago, and it yup, I got hooked.. Shes definitely on board, gets me things for my tanks from time to time, she's really great about it, just the past week or so I was really busy and she wanted me to take a break is all.

Sweet! got it before the snow picked up too much.
125G, haven't measured it to verify, but it came with the tank, stand (which is a cabinet cut to fit an xp3 and with a bunch of drawers), gravel, brand new lighting, and a full glass lid.
SCORE!
Unfortunatley we just found out we wont be moving until the second week of december....rrg.
Oh well plenty of time to build some filtration and deco!
