My sons are studying amphibians. They researched African Dwarf Frogs and we are getting a couple. We have a 10 gallon tank. They want to add fish to the tank that will produce live food for the frogs. They desire guppies.

I would like to know what kind of fish would produce fry that the frogs would like the most.

Also I want to know how many frogs to have in order to eat the live fry as they come.

maybe my fry are too big but my adf dont eat the guppy fry I have in the tank with them. The fry are a little older but some of them are still farly small and they dont eat them.

Im waiting untill I get a new spawn to see if they'll eat the little ones. But Ill tell you one thing guppies spawn like crazy so if you get about 4 females to a male in your 10g you will have babies all the time.

I believe ADF's eat more by smell than sight so the fry may just be too quick to catch for a slow frog. It might be better to find something that lays eggs and doesn't watch them, I am pretty sure they would come along and eat any eggs they might find.

Zebra danios lay tons of eggs every few days but they eat them, so the ADFs might not be able to get to them fast enough.

live fry isnt a good diet for the frogs, it can be hard to catch as the fry are fast, and it could get stuck in the frog as they fry might be too big to fully digest.
bloodworms, glass worms, brine shrimp and daphina are all good foods for the ADF's.plus livebearers tent to have fry every month or so, and after the fry have been eaten by the frogs say...what happens then, how are the frogs going to cope with weeks with no food?

Ive been feeding mine bloodworms Although I havent seen them eat yet. Im sure they are though, or else they would probibly be dead.

The trick to getting to see your frogs eat is to feed in the same location everyday. I use a small clay pot in the bottom to put either frog pellets or bloodworms into and they quickly learned to come running over to that corner whenever I fed.
