I HAVE A 55 GALLON TANK WITH A VARIETY OF TYPES OF FISH AND MY QUESTION IS: WHY DOES MY REDTAIL SHARK CONSTANTLY HARRASS MY UPSIDE DOWN CAT AND 2 ROSY BARBS? HIS BUDDY, CLOWN LOACH, FOLLOWS HIM/HER(?? ) EVERYWHERE BUT HIS BEHAVIOR TOWARDS THESE TWO SPECIES BAFFLES ME? OTHER TANKMATES ARE CORY'S, TETRAS, SWORDTAIL AND THEY LIVE A PEACEFUL, UNMOLESTED EXISTENCE. I KNOW REDTAIL SHARKS ARE AGGRESSIVE BUT WHY PICK ON CERTAIN SPECIES??? I'VE RECENTLY SEEN THE UPSIDE DOWN CAT AND THE "SHARK" STANDING GROUND TO EACH OTHER AND NOW THE SHARK SEEMS TO BE SEEKING THE CAT FOR REVENGE. ANY IDEAS?:help: :help:

Ok several issues I see
1) Can you not post in all caps?
2) Clown loaches are best in groups, so if you have a lone one you ought to look at returning it OR getting a bigger tank and some more clown loaches
3) You have a real mix of fish and it doesn't super well planned out. The RTS will harass a lot of different types of fish - not sure particularly why it is picking on the upside down cat

Been There
Done That
Bought the T-shirt

Have had aggressive red-tails in the past (don't keep them anymore) and ended up having to put them into the BIG tank (8+ inch Oscar tank - dismantled a while back)

You can and usually get a "dominant" one that will pester relentlessly anything is sees as a rival - food, territory, etc....

Sounds like you may have to relocate him/her.....

Sorry if I sounded angry (typing all in large print), but that wasn't the case. Guess as a newbie didn't realize you guys were so easily affected==do you have a little redtail shark blood in you??? Thanks for your suggestion, guess if I want to keep my other tank inhabitants happy, I'll have to rehome "Hecktor the Recker!" He's been in the community over a year and just recently started his "bad" behavior. Again: sorry, thanks and whatever else it takes to get on your good side.:l24:

We aren't easily affected - its just part of forum etiquette not to post in caps lock. thats all.
No-one was "affected"

Agreed. Rehome the RTS. 55g is way too small of to make a community tank w/RTS. Get a few more clown loaches or somethun.

lol We are afreindly bunch here!:violin: :smack: lol
Just kiddin'!

Rehoming your RTS will save you a lot of headaches.Great plan.
If you had more aggressive fish in the tank like cichlids it would be different.
