Hi,

I made a big huge mistake by cleaning the media and filter completely and change to the round type of media.

My fish are dying one by one what should I do

To Make matters worse I also clean the filter tank with tap water.

Help Help Help !!!!!

Thanks

You destroyed your cycle.

You need to do regular WC to keep the ammonia and nitrate levels down

Why did you do that? Have you read the ebook? You just killed your good bacteria so your tank is now cycling and the fish are likely dying of ammonia poisoning. You need to do large daily water changes to keep the fish alive.

Yup I agree!
You through out your cycle and washed the rest away.
The only way to rinse a filter is in old tank water.
I do suggest you look into a different media like the ac filter has.
Its so much easier to work with.
Have you access to a cycled tank?
Some used media like a paiceof their filter shoved in your filter with the new cartridge will save you lots of work.
Stock up on dechlorinator,it will come in handy!

Have you tried prime, [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]. It destroys amonia, clorimine, and clorine.:22:

That won't solve the problem smartpants6 - because the OP hasnt cycled.

Hi,

I had bought a bottle of bacteria and put in after about 5 times it works but I lost all my gold fish(blush) and then remove the log to see if that was the problem btw how long should I soak the wood log before putting into the tank?

Maybe the cycle is clean out but now it is back and I just put in a white round stone media with the coral media.

The people in the shop told the round media is for the bacteria to live and the coral is to balance the Ph, can any confirm this for me?

Thanks

Is the log actual driftwood or just a log you got from outdoors?

I soaked my wood in a bucket for a couple weeks but honestly it can soak right in your tank. You will get tannins (brownish water) but it will eventually clear up with water changes.

Now I have to ask why you have coral and for what reason? Coral is not generally used in freshwater fish tanks but in saltwater tanks to raise the pH. If you have very low pH it wouldn't hurt in your freshwater tank but most people have pH of somewhere between 6.5-7.8 so fish have a good area there in which they do fine.

You also have goldfish in a freshwater tank. These fish need no heater like the others do and many goldfish get very, very large. I'd suggest either goldfish OR tropicals. If you want a goldfish tank, unheated, then get only goldies and the fancy goldies as those do not get so large.

All will depend on what size your tank is. Goldies should be in probably at least a 40-55 gallon.

Bacteria boosters "help" hold the ammonia and nitrites down to a decent level where fish can survive but they do not cycle the tank for you. They simple aid the fish while the cycle is going. I don't know why this guy is selling you some of the stuff he's selling you. The coral and the goldies. Perhaps we need a better understanding of your tank size, your filtration and just what is it you are trying to achieve.

Are you using dechlorinator in your fishes water? I don't know if it's used where you live to sanitize your water but I assume you do.

Sorry Those are coral stones for the Filter already washed and clean of all salt

BTW my Gold fish is doing head stands which looks strange.
DO not know if that is a problem

I had clean the Coral with tap water and replace it with the Round White stones, which kill about 5 gold fish, the tank size is at 15" by 14" by 12".

No, I keep the water for 1 week and then do a water change. My water is hard water from the tap will this effect the fish?

Thanks

That would probably depend on how hard but I also have hard water. It's annoying but they do fine in it. Some species prefer softer water and will spawn better in it but we have what we have so work with it.

Hi,

It is a piece of drift wood wrap in plastic and was very old kept in the shelf
how long do I soak it?

Thanks

If dried out it will float. You can silicone it to a piece of slat to help hold it down or soak it for a long while. And sometimes a L-O-N-G while. I have some that wants to float after 6 months.
