hi,

could you turn the return (Out)Valve off, leave the in valve on, open the cannister drainage valve and use this method to syphon off water form the tank to do water changes?

anybody tied or got any opinions?

The drain valve can be opened with the pump on and the FX5 will pump the water out for you.

so you can leave both valves open, open the drain valve and perform WC's this way then?

the reason I ask is that nothing is listed about performing water changes this way, just draining the cannister.

You can actually make a separate hose with the extra valve they give you so that you can hook it to the output of the filter. The instructions for this are in the FX5 manual on pages EN-23 & 24. Here is the link if you don't have the manual.
