there is a simiar one at the omaley's pet shop here in australia but it says its an australian native any clue? they look exactly the same

Scleropages jardini, Australian Arowana ;-)

There exist several species of arowanas found in Asia, Australia and South America. The native one you saw in the fish store was the Australian Arowana (Scleropages jardini). All of the species are predators that grows very large.
