I am looking at getting into having a saltwater tank and wanting some sea horses. I am wanting to keep a 29 gallon tank. I cannot find really good info on setting up or maintaining, nor on how to properly keep, care for, or companions for sea horses. all help would be appreciated. thanks

Checklist for seahorse-/pipefish tank
For a tank of approx. 60 gallon you need the following equipment:
tank, 40 x 20 x 20 inch
protein skimmer Aqua Medic Midiflotor
air pump Schego Optimal, air tube 60 inch
2 flow pumps Power Head 302 with filter cartridge
in addition 2 time switches for flow changes every 6 hours
heater 200 W
3 fluorescent lights, each 25-30W
2 blue lights, each 25-30W
5 reflectors for the lights
2 time switches for white and blue light
sea salt 10 kg
about 6 kg gravel
pH test, nitrate test
Araeometer for salinity measurement
some other stuff such as fishnet, thermometer, algae scratch
Up to now it will cost about $ 500 (in Germany) - thatīs not too much or what do you think?
The concretely designated products are only exemplarily specified.

In addition you need about 20-30 kg live rock ($ 200-300) as well as animals and macro algae. Advisable is the acquisition of an osmosis device (approx. $ 130) in order to optimize the water quality.

Sea horses need an established, mature tank, near perfect levels, and a ton of matenince. Seahorses would not be a good beginner fish. I reccomend clownfish or damsels.

A couple of years ago I was really interested in keeping seahorses, but after doing a bit of research I realised I didn't have the time for them. But here is a good site dedicated to seahorses....
