I just bought a male fiddler crab today, and while I was handling him he crawled out of my hand and fell onto the floor,
he lost his eye!
Will it ever grow back and will this have any effect on him????
PLEASE HELP ME!

it should grow back just fine. Will be much like if he lost a claw, it will be a bit smaller than the other one, but still functional.

Well that does suck.Be heartened that they are generally pretty tough. There really isn't anything you can do to make it better but as was mentioned,it should grow back.

About 20 years ago, I dropped a baby hamster and its leg was broken. I still feel guilty about that (the hamster died) [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]

How do they grow back an eye? Never heard of it.

They only regenerate their eyes as part of the molting process. If it was lost due to injury, it will not regrow.

So I got a closer look at him and his eye is still intact, its just folded into the little crevice that he has, will it be able to heal after time or will I have to make him a little eye patch? :P
Also, I bought him from a store that had him completely submerged in freshwater, I didn't have a chance to buy him some salt, how long can he go in fresh water? Does anyone know?

ah yes..after reading a little more in depth, if the eye has been completely severed it will just regrow a stump , but if the eye is still intact for the most part, it should come back...sorry about the false hopes...
:scry:
on the bright side even with one eye it should still live a happy life!
