Green bird's nest growth

I made a thread for my RP so I guess I can do it for my birds nest as well since I took lots of pics of growth so far. I got it as a small frag about six months ago and has grown from frag to colony in a very small time frame.

There's also a November shot that I cant upload since my USB cable broke but I will try to find a way to upload since in just a few weeks of growth from this pic the difference is amazing.

Thanks guys, this coral is very special to me since It was the very first frag I got and I basically got to see it grow week by week and month by month, it's really amazing!

Nice growth shots, I love how fast they grow. What are you running for t-5's? The colors look awesome, comparable to our green birdsnest under our 250 watt 14,000K halide

3 -- ATI Blue Plus
1 -- UV Lighting Super Actinic
1 -- ATI 12000K Aquablue
1 -- GE 6500K Daylight
1 -- UV Lighting 10000K AquaSun
1 -- UV Lighting 75-25 Aquablue

Those are the bulbs im running right now but in a couple of months when im due for a bulb I change im planning to remove the GE daylight and get another Aquable or super actinic for even more blue!

haha I wonder that too but I think it's because of its growth pattern, I guess big colonies look a pile twigs cris-crossing each other kind of like a birds nest. Im not sure if thats the real reason though lol

ok so its snowing here so I decided to relax and take some pics here's a pic of the birds nest and its shocking to see how much growth it gets in a single month!

Yes, that is exactly why they call them Birds nests. As they grow, the branches can actually cross and fuse together and form an intricate web of skeleton that looks much like a birds nest.

BTW, great looking coral. I have one with that same coloration. Only had mine about 1 month though and mine is under T5 lighting.

I think its time to update on the growth of this baby! I was looking at the December shot and wow just wow, this thing grows like a weed lol

Looks awesome, makes me jealous as we lost most of our baseball sized colony last month due to RTN. All we have left is a half inch section. Luckily its a very fast grower so it should be decent sized before the end of winter

Its a regular frag plug reefers use them to mount SPS frags so we can put them in the eggcrate for grow out.

It really sucks when you lose a whole colony like that but like you said it should grow back pretty quick.

Hi Miltonic.

I run a research aquarium which is currently being upgraded, so my current research (in a 320 g tank) has to be moved to the education area of our facility.
The reason I'm telling you this is that this particular project is on coral growth and growth forms of acropora spp. and what I have been asked to do is a small A3 poster explaining very simply what I am doing. This is just for the kids that come to see the aquarium. Your picture sequence of the birds nest coral is beautiful and I was hoping I could use them in the poster. It isn't for publication and I will credit you as the photographer and aquarist.
So with your permission may I use them?

Very nice Milt. I think green birds nest are one of the fastest growing sps.

The gbn we have, which we lost all but one branch due to rtn, has trippled in size in a few months time

Im glad yours is making a comeback since this corals beauty can only be appreciated in a nice sized colony and thats when all you work pays off.
