Hi eveyone, i recently just bought 3 fancy guppies to start out my 20gallon tank. I have noticed some white spots on them a few days after bringing them home. I have tried treating them with quick cure for 5 days with waterchanges daily but the disease is still present on the fish. The disease looks like ich but only covers the fins in "patches" rather than little spots. Does anyone know what this might be?

I wonder if it might be "Velvet" or some kind of fungus?

It's ick. Continue with treatment and vac the bottom of your tank daily. It takes a while at times to get rid of it and especially on what kind of medication you are using.
Have you removed charcoal from the filter?

Yep, i've removed the carbon from my filter, i'll continue with the treatment tomorrow morning, looks more like Ich than Velvet though.

Ick is spots such as you describe. Velvet is in larger areas and is gold or brown. You can shut the tank lights off and shine with a flashlight at night and the Velvet will show up easily.
Just treat your tank and leave it alone for a few days. You need not do your water changes for a few days.

I just moved the guppies to a spare 10gallon tank i had so i can use less medications, seems like the fish actually have fungus rather than ich, are there any methods for curing fungus? Seems as though the ich medicine has slowed it down and the fish are getting better.

there is also true body fungus and columnaris. both fit the description you give. go to your LFS look on the back of medicine packs , they show pictures of fungus and ick as well as mouth and fin rot [etc]. match the meds to the symptoms.
