View Full Version : bio balls
Is it ok to submerge bio balls or should they only be used to have water trickle over them. I would like to raise the water level in my freshwater sump :help:

You're welcome... my only concern with the ratio above/below the water line is that wet/dry filters are known for being more efficient and providing higher levels of oxygen. The bio-balls below the water line I think would act more as a biological filter and the bio-balls above would oxgenate the water. The ratio is more important should you be solely relying on your sump to provide sufficient oxygen and not supplimenting in some other way.
I would definitely keep this in mind when adding meds that can reduce the oxygen levels and definitely consider adding extra aeration during applicable med treatments.
Hope this help!
