Is it unusually cruel to have just males in your tank? If you don't want to be dealing with fry and fry as food sources?

Seems like an all-male or all-female school situation! :ezpi_wink1:

I don't think that it is cruel to keep a single sex group but if you don't want babies get Males as females may come pregnant from the shop.

If you are worried about overcrowding consider my situation, I have 1 male and 3 female Endler's which up till now have had 4 babies all together, 2 in my breeders net and 2 which were subsequently eaten by my Betta. Yesterday there were another 2 babies in my tnak which i moved to the breeder and that was fine, this morning another 7 appeared and I didn't know what to do with them, I put 3 in the breeders net, put 3 in my larger tank to be eaten and left the last one to be hunted down by my Betta.

I think it is more cruel to let a tank become overstocked, and have the water quality reduced drastically than to feed a few babies to my Tiger barbs. However I would have prefered in the long run not to have had babies and to just have got males.

Ok good. I was thinking along the lines of humans and being humorous as well! Such things can get so lost in just the typings over the internet.

So I could add swords or platies and not be concerned about hurting their feelings and only giving them male tanks mates.

Although I have never kept all males, I do know when I kept all females they didn't have any problems with needing to find a male or fighting amongst themselves.
You should be fine with all males as long as you don't overdue it.

The males will adapt to their surroundings...... ;)

At reptileguys suggestion some time ago, I've thought often of getting an all male peacock tank. All the pretty fish would be there but no females to start all the aggression.
