Have you guys ever tried these?

[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]

I have them on my tank, and I love them.
I have a lunar light, and 1 lunar link on a 25 Gallon tank, and it's beautiful.

The only thing, is the darn power adapter KEEPS burning up.
I have gone through 2 of them now, and they don't even last a WEEK!

Should I keep on trying? So far, they have sent me replacements for free, but this is a big pain in my butt!

Thanks!

I use the LED's from Marina ....

I've had them for 2 years and haven't had a problem with them yet. They're cheap, $15 Cdn for 1 light and base unit (which you can plug 2 more into) and $9 Cdn for each additional light. They have suction cups on them, they can be rotated into different angles and are submersible.

I have 2 on my 29g tank which I attached beside my flourescent bulb (one on each side) and I have 1 on my 10g which is just under the canopy. All 3 are share the same base unit. So for 3 lights being used on 2 tanks I only paid $33 Cdn.

I highly recommend them.

What do the lunar lights do? Would you need them for freshwater tanks? My understanding was they are used primarily for reef tanks, am I wrong?

i use little leds for my freshwater for looks only. i have a red on one side that illuminates the inside of the tree trunk and a blue one on the other side that lights up a rock and makes a dark cave covered in moonlight. its pretty neat looking, they have suction cups and adjustable angles for whatever you want to do.

Ive been thinknig about going and getting a 12v addaptor, some blue leds, some resistors, some wire, and some more solder, and retrofit them into my current canopys. MUCH cheaper (4 dollars about, most likely less.) and they look just as good if not better.

You don't need them in freshwater tanks, but they're available, so why not? :ezpi_wink1: Looks quite neat at night, it adds a whole other dimension to the tank.

Are they submersible or are they on the outside of the tank/glass?

DO NOT PUT THEM IN THE WATER!!!! they need to be mounted outside the tank. they can be used on a freshwater setup to observe the nocturnal habits of the life in the aquarium and also to simulate night lighting (moon light)

Cool, I am going to try to pick some up this weekend. I did see one at petsmart that I believe was an underwater one. Once I go to petsmart I will look and let you know what they have there.

Cool. I don't have them, wasn't even thinking about them til this thread came along. Now I'm intriqued!

Does this mess with the plants or fish - meaning, doesn't it create the possibility of too much daylight/light in general? Are they in need of the dark for a rest time?

As long as it is not overly bright (some dark areas in the tank) they will be fine. Or you can get a red LED, as fish apparently cannot see that wavelength of light.
