From reading up it looks like hair algae? I've got it all over my plants which is making them look a lot darker than normal.

It looks like someone dumped a pile of dog hair all over my plants :(

If you can help me ID it then I can so some reading up on how to treat it.

I've tried pulling out as much as possible - but its a hopeless cause.

I've checked the nitrites, nitrates, ph - all looks ok

How old is this tank?If it is fairly new it looks a bit like diatomacious algae which will go away on a month or so.Until then cut back on the feedings and keep up with the manual removal and water changes. It also thrives on phosphates so check that as well.If this is an older tank then it is likely hair algae.Do the same things and add more plants to starve the stuff out.

That looks like hair algae to me. Add more plants - fast-growing stem plants work best - and it'll be gone for good. Some fish also graze on it, but probably not enough to get rid of it.

Thanks - I'll try that and see how it goes.
