I dunno...I kind of enjoy have the parrot call the kids to dinner...and say 'Hello!' to us when we come home...:1luvu:

My fish sure can't be bothered...

That video wouldn't work for me -- it said to try back later, and I will!

I would LOVE to have a parrot one day, but not sure I can now with the lung issue I had (will ask my pulmonologist). But, I'd sooooo love to have an African Grey Parrot when I have the proper time to dote on one.

A friend of mine had one and when she'd come home, he would call to her "Carol" and talk to her in HER voice when he'd hear her come through the door! And would talk to her husband in HIS voice when he came through the door! I love that!!! Of course, then all my guests would realize what a foul mouth I have when he says "Je.... f..... c....." and all my other favorites, in my voice, vs. H's (blush)

Well, Levi hasn't talked yet, but he does laugh when I laugh. He welcomes me home in his own language...and I love it! Jill, I cursed the other day, and I heard Ken whisper "Cover your ears, Levi!":hmm3grin2orange:

It is great when they can talk a lot. Sure they can be a bit much when they just screem but it is very nice when they welcome you home by saying hello etc etc

...and then again, it is a little disconcerting to hear my Pionus mimic my asthmatic cough I get when I have a cold...:help:

Or when a parrot says "aaauch that hurts!" sometimes when she goe sup on your finger.

(Had a little problem with it biting until I realised it is afraid of the dark. I have to turn the light on before i put her on her perch or she'll bite)

However I find it very ammusing when it says "aaauch that hurts! Awesome!" and it is a bit cute when she says "where are you going" when I go for my bike.

LOL...oh yes! Gotta luv all that!

My Grey says "Let me out!"...hubby finds that disturbing.

I find her Chucky laugh a little creepy...but the rest is all just adorable...

I guess they could be taught to "bleep".

Can't do birds here, I won't even get a bird feeder for the yard. To me there is no sense in baiting the field for the the cats. They find enough on their own.

A friend of mine had a parrot that yelled "here kitty, kitty" all day long. He got it from the neighbor calling his cat.

A parrot that swears can be pretty embarrassing. You never know when he might come out with his new-found words. You need to talk around them like you do your kids, I suppose. If a parrot lived at my house, all it would do is make keyboard noises. lol

What do I find this morning as walk out the front door?????????? You guessed it.... damn cats got me a "present". Talk about irony!!! And not 30 min after I replied about their carnivorous ways.

I do to. Especially since she always use it after she has done something evil, like bitten someone or lured the cat up the tree just to beat it up and trow it down again. Moooohahaha Moooohahahaha

Right now the African Grey is indulging in hysterical laughter broken up by coughing fits...

...then she says "Good girl! Kiss kiss! *smacking noise*":1luvu:

LH the first time I recall ever hearing a curse word when I was young was from a parrot. I can't remember exactly what variety he was, he was green, and at the time about half my size... (Edit: A few seconds of google image searching makes me positive he was a green macaw, not sure what sub species/variety though. he was a beautiful bird I must admit) My grandparents had him, "pappy" and my grandfather was pretty careful about not cursing around me, but the bird well, he wasn't so great about it. My first memory of him cursing was "GD it Peggy!"(my grandma's name) and he just wouldnt stop repeating it, she had forgot to feed him that morning, guess he was pissed. After that first memory I remember a lot of other cursing from him, and it always sounded like my grandpa's voice a lot to me, but I won't go into detail, noone here wants to read a post full of cursing. Funniest thing is, that was when I was probably 5 or younger, and I never heard my grandfather actually curse in my presence until I was around 14 or so.

That vid was funny, but I also think that bird pappy turned me into a bird hater for life. They're pretty, but I don't enjoy their company, I'd rather just see a picture, except for one cockatoo I know that is just awesome. Pappy was noisy, and mean, and messy. But he was extremely intelligent, it seemed like he could almost hold a conversation with a person, but once in a while would say the total wrong thing, and it broke the illusion. A bird making noise all day that sounds like a kid crying, well I couldn't take that. Especially with the kid around too.

Pappy was pretty old when my grandparents got him and last I heard he's still around, he'd have to be near 80 or 90 by now. That's another thing that really turns me off about large parrots and all, what the heck do you do with a pet that is going to out live you? Set up a trust fund?

Trust fund???:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

I've told my daughter that if I get a bigger bird, that will outlive me, the bird(s) are part of her inheritance...:hmm3grin2orange:

I enjoy the outside variety and feed them winter and summer and supply them a nice bath. But, like you, I do not enjoy the screaming, seeds flying all over, feathers and poop. Just isn't my bag. I've had parakeets that I enjoyed, a couple canaries that were awesome singers and two cockatiels that were meaner than heck, were biters and a total nusiance. Cost me $200 for their danged cage and then I had to practically give them away because I couldn't sucker anyone into taking them.

Parrots are beautiful and I also enjoy looking at them but really happy when I can walk away without one and leave him right where he is. I think elephants are lovely, too, but I don't want one of them, either. "Someday" I may have another parakeet but then I would have to cover my fishtanks and not have all my windows hanging open so prolly not.

Elephants stink. Parrots don't.
