....just an update on the platy's fry in my tank...OH MY GOD !!! I have completely lost track...they are reproducing at a speed I cannot count them , there must be at least 9 more babies !!!

I need to get rid of them... don't take me wrong...I mean to give them to a LFS or to someone who will love them...

Just guys please stop mating:hmm3grin2orange:

Congrats of a sort, Neon!

Could you put a fish in with them that would love to eat the fry, such as one angel fish for population growth? My tank eats any fry that comes about as fast as they are produced. I think. I've yet to find babies, but I always have some that look pregnant.

I agree with adding a fish or two that will serve as population control. Otherwise it will get very out of hand before you know it.

I have an angelfish that I bought as a baby that grew up with my smaller tetras, rasboras, and added 2 Boesmani Rainbow fish that just waits for fry babies to be born. I got the Angelfish as a fry population control for my 2 females/1 male guppy I have in my 55 gal. The dime size angelfish that I bought at Walmart of $6 is now over 6" now and is the biggest fish in my tank. I'm so glad that I got him. I have not seen any fry survive the Angelfish or Boesnami rainbow fish. If you do not like all the fry just have 1 sex livebearer in your tank . I would go for males only or females only but the female can have babies for several months without a male so I would just keep all male and rehome all the females. My friend rehomed all her females for free and keeps all the male guppies, with other livebearers like platy, mollies, they have more color and are not as plain as the drab female guppy. If you don't want babies you can have a female tank and a male tank. I have all the female seperate from the males in their own tank. I just put them to mate for a few days and keep them seperate afterwards. I only keep 2 females at all times in their own tank and keep all the colorful male guppies.:fish: :fish: :fish:

Too bad you're in Dublin or I would totally take them.

As angelfish get larger they will eat anything they can get into their mouths including other fish. Neons make an easy snack for medium to large angels. I would stay away from that combo.

...ok then , I am taking the "babies " to the LFS .
But I would like to keep all the adults , boys and girls....do you know any other fry-eater suitable for my tank size and-compatibility-like?:22:

I second the no go on the angel/neon combo. (hey, that kind of rhymes...) I had 2 large black angels and decided I needed some color, bought 7 cardinal tetras, next morning= NO TETRAS. Took me a little while to figure it out, but based on the fact that they didn't care for their usual rations that morning... Talk about expensive dining!

A gourami would take care of the fry for you. Or a pair of dwarf cichlids like bolivian rams.

I guess I got lucky with my angelfish. I say this as I had glow light tetras that are about the came size of neon tetras and I never had a problem with my big boy eating them as he grew bigger. I wanted to get the dwarf rasboras who school with my reg. size rasboras. I rehomed the glow-lights as I did not want to many schooling fish crowding my tank. I recently added the dwarf rasboras and they are small and all are doing well together in my tank. I guess my tiny angelfish grew up to be a gentle giant at 6" big. He has quite a personality also. He follows you around when you pass the tank and he follows a cat lazer toy when you shine it in the tank.He is always their to greet you in the front of the tank. I named him stripe. He is a boy as he has a small bump on the front of his head. As a baby I picked this one as I watched all the angels in the tank and he seemed really mellow and he was the smallest one of all the angels in the tank. Maybe try a swordtail male for population control. I also heard that they like hair algae if you ever get that in your tank.

thank you Eileen but i already got a swordtail but he doesn't work as fry-eater.
action plan :
1 babies to LFS
2 buy a dwarf gourami or a couple of Ram.

thank you allthumbs2: :19:

That would work and the Dwarf Gouramis are cute and The Rams are cute also.

I had (had:scry: ) a dwarf gourami and he certainly didn't keep my fry under control.

I was thinking of taking mine to the LFS too. But if you do that won't they just use them for feeder fish? Because you can't guarantee what the color/breed is of the fry. Or at least I can't with mine.
