As wonderful as Craigslist can be... I'm still surprised at the level of intelligence by some who use it...
Is this a growing trend among everyone or does it just happen to me?
I have a few old tanks I'm selling on craiglist. So I get a few emails from people asking the basic questions, have a couple people that want to come check them out, wonderful.
But... then there's two or three people, that email me, and give me their Cell# and tell ME to call THEM....... I'm relatively new to selling stuff online, but I have posted things for sale in newspapers/ other local sources, I can't imagine getting a letter in the mail from a newspaper ad with a phone# in the letter telling me to call them.. lol.
I'm not trying to sell credit cards, just trying to clear out the attic.. aren't THEY supposed to contact ME?
And yes I did post my # in the ad...which nobody has used.
goodnight!

I'm not sure what you're upset about. Generally, when I contact someone selling stuff on craigslist I email them, asking more questions if the ad wasn't clear. I only call when they say not to contact via email or if they say they prefer calls as I'd rather not bother someone if they're busy at work. I will give my phone number when I am serious about buying something. That way they can contact me by phone if necessary. It works out well so far.

It's young people...They just don't know how to act.
I bet the same people respond to job postings the same way. "I want to work - call me!"

hmm not sure about this. what i hate about craigslist is you will respond to an ad and they wont ever get back in touch with you

Means they've already sold it and are too lazy to respond

gotta admit i sometimes do the too lazy to respond
but i agree the call me thing gets annoying, especially when they just reply "call me 9871234", not "Hey, still got the _____? If you do, i'd appreciate if you could call me at 6541230. Thanks"
i have to admit i usually dont reply to replies with terrible grammer, like "still got light what size dimensions" or people who just sound like trash

i mean i responded to an ad and got a response to call them. called them numerous times after and even left my number with no response
I agree with you. It's rude to post an ad and then not take the responses to the ad seriously.

From my experience on CL that happens quite a bit. Even when you post your # they ask you to call them. I think they're afraid of catching you at a bad time or something.
I'm not sure how much you use email, but I learned the hard way not to list my number on CL. A number of people started sending inappropriate texts and signing my cell number up for paid services after I listed it. Took me a good month to figure out what happened and clear everything up. My procedure for CL now is initial contact one-on-one via email, then exchange numbers if required.

I think it depends on what is posted for sale. I have contacted people for my boyfriend on vehicles they have listed- and they don't list their phone number.... it's frustrating when you have more questions to ask and people don't respond to emails- in those cases I do say "please call me at ..."
What drives me nuts though is when you take the time to email or call and leave a message about ANY ad and the person doesn't bother to respond. It is extremly rude and inconsiderate (and I have been on the seller end as well but took the time to tell people I no longer have it etc...) I find this mostly happens about jobs and vehicles.
There was one incident where I was talking to someone about a cell phone they had for sale, we had traded emails a couple of times (he still had it etc..) and phone numbers, I had emailed him saying I could swing by that way (c. half an hour away) the next day and I didn't get a response so I called and it went to voicemail, I left a message saying "I can be out there around ___ today" and he NEVER called back. I tried calling again and nothing. If something came up or you sold it to someone else, great- but get the balls to say so.
*I also agree with another post about not giving out my phone numer until a couple emails have been exchanged*

I'll reply regardless of grammar. The ad is pretty clear in whats being offered, but like you said, I'm getting emails with just "hey call me 4548758947" no, thanks, you call me.

Like I said, I'm not pushing credit cards here, lol.
Buyers call, not sellers.. when did it get flipped around? If my # is listed and they are interested, why would they wait for me to call? lol.
I also always reply even if it has been sold for weeks.
I didn't think there would be so many people that actually think I should call them lol...

I prefer to do e-mail as much as possible for CL transactions. When I want to buy something, I usually e-mail saying "Hi, I'm interested in [item] if it's still available. When would it be possible for me to come look at it?" Or I'll ask a few questions about it, or whatever. There's always specific information I ask the seller to respond with, so it's not just hanging.
...I'm still laughing from last year, when I had an ad that said 'Roosters for Sale' and described the varieties of roosters.
I had NO inquiries about roosters...but several for hens.:help: :hmm3grin2orange:

Perhaps they've been tainted by not receiving any responses when they call. I think the bad practice of sellers on CL has led to people leaving their number - they figure if you're serious you'll call them, cause that is a problem with CL-sellers not being serious.
It's still wrong - buyers call, not sellers.

I think it's safe to bet if the seller does not answer an email the item is no longer for sale.
I did actually suck it up and call one guy who wanted my tank "ASAP"... upon calling him, he said he's working a deal with someone else and would call me back in an hour...2 hrs ago.:hmm3grin2orange:

trying to rehome my danios for free, just ask that people prove they have a suitable established tank, and it got flagged for removal.
Stupid boulder hippies.
The ad was---------
Looking for a new home for my healthy and very mean 4" male Melanochromis Auratus Mbuna cichlid.
Was given to me free and figured I would offer it here before I take it into the fish store.
Mbuna are incredibly aggressive and the Auratus is one of the top ones on the mean scale. Please only take this fish if you know what you are getting into. I suggest a Auratus only tank, as it will most likely kill any other species that can not defend themselves.
Yes I know that this doesn't make him sound that appealing, but as I said, I want people to know what they are getting into.
Also looking to rehome 6 Giant Danios. They are good community fish but will nip the fins off of long-finned fish. Cannot give these away for free unless you can prove you don't plan on using them to cycle a tank or feed your oscar. (a description of your tank work just fine).
Thank you!
seriously? WTf was wrong with that?

I have to agree. If work is involved or some effert involved, they will expect the other party to "handle it".
I would not expect to call the seller either. Let them use "their" minutes.

I gotta say, I see it everywhere - including this site and I don't think I'm alone here. I've seen several comments about "using google" and I think they're right. There is a wealth of information to be found, and instead of doing a search themselves they'd rather ask someone else for the answer (and then that someone else does the search). I'm not saying this to be mean or to discourage people from posting - it's just an illustration of a looming issue I've been watching on the horizon - technology making us stupid and lazy.

I hear you loud and clear. Yahoo is even worse. If I hear one more question asking "How big do goldfish get" I will rip my hair out by the roots using both hands and a chainsaw.

Ok, so and update on this "issue"..
I have some stuff for sale on craigslist, non fish related items, and I haven't really gotten any responses lately.. except for one, and of course, it was somebody saying "hey i want those asap call me 555-5555"... since I had no other emails about this item in a while I figured.. hey, maybe I'll sell it!
So, I call the number.. and I get..
"Look I don't know what you're talking about I never gave you my number man, I never emailed you"
.....never again lol
and yes I dialed the correct number.

Just kiddin'! lol I wouldn't do that.I will call but not leave a message.
I will call back though! lol
Not doing a search bothers me when I click on New Posts and see the same question asked three times on the same page.

So I read through this thread earlier and it reminded me I've been forgetting to check "best of" Craigslist. Here's a link to a newer one I think AC'ers willl appreciate [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]
Just be aware before checking out any other best of posts, some of them are very explicit and not appropriate for kids, probably not for anyone. This particular post that I linked is clean enough for anyone though.
And yeah, there is no standard for etiquette on CL, even if there were I doubt half the people would even take a look at it, let alone follow it. It's a shame, because the idea behind CL really is great, but it just doesn't work as intended because some people are idiots. In the rare times I have found good sellers or buyers on CL it has worked out great though. Still love my 55g that I got for 40 bucks, with stand, and a bunch of liverock I sold for over twice the price of the tank. I basically made 100 bucks for picking up the tank that got me back into the hobby I love.

Nice find! Can I add some stuff?
"Also, you will need to pass an exam on fish (or cat, or dog, or reptile) keeping so I know that you know what you're doing."
"Additionally, you'll agree to a background check and some drug tests."
"Please be ready to let me walk all over your house/apartment/dwelling staring at everything in it because I will need to thoroughly inspect the facilities that you will be keeping him (or her, or it) in."

Also when I was done looking at best of, i found a 55gal acrylic with stand and some accesories real cheap, agreed to buy it as long as the tank passes a visual/water holding inspection, woot, hopefully another 55 tomorrow and I can ditch a 20 to make room for it!
Nice additions BIO!
