How about this one? Is expensive as plants go here (about $9) but I really like it and may want to add later if appropriate. thanks again

It looks like a tiger lotus plant (Nymphaea lotus) to me. They may be cheaper to buy as bulbs or seeds. The seed or bulb looks a bit like a very tiny cocoanut. You simply plant it in the substrate, with about half or so of the bulb above the substrate.

Thanks. I will look at garden centers here for seed before buying plants. Also plants may be cheaper outside LFS.

I will begin my search tomorrow.

Tiger lotus looks right but it's hard to say until they send up an actual flower.

The plants are great for aquariums. Most retail pet stores, including wall mart usually carry dry bulbs. Just toss them into the tank and they typically sprout. You can purchase larger growing plants at some pond supply stores but they tend to be more expensive. I'm actually going to start a few more of these over the winter for hopes of getting them into a pond next season.
