I've watched this a few times and there are sure was odd fish in the amazon. Last night they had a catfish that had eaten a man. Only his feet were sticking out of his mouth.
It's on Animal Planet if you get a chance to watch it.

What would scare me more than the monster fish are those little mean things that jumped up that guys "thingie" when he was urning in the water. Because it's the amazon, it took him 4 days to get to a doctor. By then he was in awful shape, kidneys failing and that awful thing eating it's way up inside of him.
They are vicious and will devour a fish from the inside out. I can't remember the name of them but I couldn't help but think of all the kids that wade in that water.

Candiru are the little pleasant fish you're thinking of.

Yeah, Candiru are scary. I would rather meet a Pima, Payara, Rhom...whatever than a Candiru :14:

I hate the way these shows misrepresent a lot of animals. They demonize and sensationalize them for ratings.

Some of them are actually quite vicious.
He does swim with them though.
There is a video of him swimming with fresh water dolphins, until he got nipped a few times.:hmm3grin2orange:
He also swims with a school of pirahnas.
I wish the show played up here!

The thing is, while some animals are aggressive and have vicious looking adaptations, they are not monsters. They evolved to survive in some of the harshest places on earth. They dont deserve to be cast in such a bad light by people just out for profits. Nature shows should be honest and objective. There is a reason why David Attenborough is so respected.

I don't think they are put in a bad light at all. They are amazing creatures that we have not yet seen and wouldn't see without that show. We also learn about them. I see it as no different as those who dive with sharks or whales so that we learn of them.

I know, I'm just saying that terms like "monster" and 'man eater' and such are used to strike a sense of fear and dread into viewers. When they do that, people dont learn of the true nature of these animals. Yes. many of them are highly dangerous, but that doesnt mean they should be demonized for merely existing. In fact, the danger is played up in most cases. Swimming in piranha "infested" waters OMG!! The word infested is another thing that annoys me.. People talk about piranha and shark "infested" water.. when in fact the animals are meant to be there. They've always been there. Wouldnt inhabited be a better word? Of course, and they know that... but "infested" sounds better to an audience that wants a cheap thrill.

Cheap thrills? Now you're talking!!!!!
:hmm3grin2orange:
Thought I should edit this before someone took this different than what I meant.........cheap thrills for me is getting a package from UPS. Going out to dinner. Buying a new fish. Finding a cigarette. lol

It's all about marketability. But overall, I think those shows promote conservation and awareness for the animals they highlight.
