Cleaning off the extra silicon

Hey Guys

I am helping a friend building his aquarium before I start my new one. He has some silicon which is extra and needs to be cleaned off from the glass. We did not try anything yet so that we do not damage the glass.

What do you suggest as cleaning solvent? any brand names? where can I buy?

Thanks a lot people

a nice sharp new razor blade works best. You don't want to use solvents because it can get under the silicon you want to keep there and could weaken the seams.

Here is thread that may help?

You can use paint thinner to remove old silicone.
If its not all removed it will not be good for your fish! It does melt silicone.
Wash it really well after.Wipe with alcohol before resealing.

Thinner will weaken the seams between the glass, use sparingly!Just a bit on a rag should be good.
I cannot stress washing it out enough.

I used a razor scrapper, too. Comes right off.
