Earlier this evening I netted one of my female frontosas with the intention
of stripping the fry from her.
Unfortunately I miscalculated her holding period and she spat well formed
eggs into the container instead of fry, as I had no egg tumbler to put them in
I put the female in the container with the eggs, then stepped back and watched. She took the eggs in her mouth again, something I thought she wouldn't do and I released her back into the main tank where she is
swimming around as if nothing happened. I just hope she continues to incubate the eggs and that they continue to develop.
I guess we'll know in a week or so.

I hope she continues to care for them!
That was unfortunate timing.
Good luck with her.I don't think I'd put my fingers anywhere near her for a while!lol

P.S. Thats what journals are for!

Thing is Ray you never see them breeding so it is pretty hard to
put an accurate date on things, I was judging by how much her
mouth was dilated but over 20 really well developed eggs threw me off.
Like you say, hopefully she'll continue to care for them.

Get building that egg-tumbler! =) Mine works great! It is hard to judge when you're talking about 28 days of incubation.

Hopefully the eggs will be ok. No reason they should not be.

Wow you got lucky, i have also stripped early only to watch the female ignore them or eat them. Now i remove the female and let nature take its course.I feel like it can stress them out a little to much, but i am probably overreacting.thumbs2: cant wait to c pics!!

agreed, I have never seen a female pick them back up, usually she just eats them.
Good luck!

Amazing what they will tolerate/do! Hope she hatches them out successfully!

she will most likely keep hatching the eggs. They are usually very good parents and often if not always pick up the eggs again if they lose them.

Sound like your going to get a greate big batch of fry!
