hummmmm.....I've read it can be used in a bucket outside of the tank for dipping fish with constipation but only for 10-15 minutes. I don't know of other uses.

I have used Epsom Salts för treating Swim Bladder Disorder in a Betta. Gave him a daily dip in a salt bath. It did seem to relieve the issue temporarily, but did not cure....

I used it for constipation as well, but I was told to use it differently. I put a grain of epsom salt onto a pea slice and fed it to my goldfish for his constipation, worked like a charm!

Someone on a different fish forum told me to do that... but I can't remember what the forum was. It was about 3 years ago!
Or maybe it was allexperts.com...
Either way it worked really well for my fish. He was well again pretty quickly as I recall, so from then on I started fasting him twice a weak and fed him frozen peas on sundays. After that he stayed very healthy and I never had the problem again!
thank you all for your kind replies !:22:

I don't know if I'd feed them a grain of the epsom salt...great that it worked, but that is a huge change in osmotic pressure inside the fish, hence the laxative properties. I'd just be worried it would be too disruptive to the GI tract.
The only thing I've used epsom salts for is hardening my soft water for african cichlids. It is one of the two primary ingredients in rift lake cichlid salts.

Hard to tell if it was the piece of salt inside the pea or the pea itself but as long as it worked, great. This method wouldn't work with a tank of fish, tho, and individuals would have to be removed and treated separately. Sounds like a good way to treat Betta's, tho.

Yeah I'd agree with this.
In the future I won't use that method, but at the time I had a single goldfish that I could hand feed, and had no idea what to do, so I did the first thing I was told to do.
It could easily have been just the pea and fasting that helped.
