Great addition! I love mine, but be careful - they can be murderers! I caught mine with half a Glolight Tetra in it's mouth at lights on one morning not too long ago.
He was just looking at me like "...what?" :hmm3grin2orange:
Killies shoudln't be kept in community tanks.
It looks very nice though.

I could have used that information a couple of weeks ago Red... :hmm3grin2orange:
Yeah, thats why research is always the best. I have kept around 25 different species of them, and will always take a PM asking a question about them.

Mine was actually one of my first additions - I don't even think I was a member here yet. I was still believing the information I was getting at the LFS...
My whole philosophy changed shortly after starting my research here.

Hes tiny right now and there arent any fish in that tank he can fit in his mouth. He's the smallest fish in the tank so I'm not worried he's in a tank with some larger angels, I heard that it may have trouble with the angels but we shall see. I was really impressed when I put some shrimp pellets in the tank and he ate one whole and hes only about an inch and a half long!
Its not just him eating the other fish, the movement of all the other fish really stress out the killies.

Wow didnt read that anywhere. I have a lot of plants up the surface it can hide in if its stressed out. So they are majorly solitary fish in the wild or what?

He is a nice looking fish!
Yes mostly, they inhabit slower moving waters like ponds. They like there female, but the female has to be able to hide and run away from the male.

ohh well...thought I did my research enough because everything I looked up said it was ok as long as it couldn't fit the other fish in its mouth. Guess I'm screwed.

That is a sharp looking fish, since it seems to b an agressive fish anyone ever tried it in an african cichlid tank?

You aren't screwed untill it actually eats your other fish. What are the other fish in the tank?
I keep mine with cherry barbs and a crayfish. It never goes after the barbs, but will snatch up full grown guppies and ghost shrimp in a heartbeat - awesome to watch.
Nice fish - a word of caution - even though it hangs out at the surface almost all of the time, they'll hunt down prey anywhere in the tank.

Its in with corys, angelfish, BGK, and a striped raphael..nothing in this tank can be fit into its mouth.

Killies shoudln't be kept in community tanks.
allthough generally true there are some species including this one that usually do well in well planted community tanks. I have kept and bred them in community tanks. A good part of the eggs and fry suprisingly survive to adulthood in community tanks even if they are kept with fast fish.

Saying killis are not community fish and should only be kept in a species tank is like saying the same of cichlids - while it is true for some, it's certainly not true for others.
