Hi everyone; I brought this guy home two days ago. At the LFS, he was labled a "Blue Tail Fire Gourami". I'm wondering if he is a Colisa lalia color morph, or a Trichogaster chuna color morph. Sorry if the photo isn't the best.

How big is it?

Any chance of a better photo?

Could be a dwarf flame but no idea without relative size or better picture.

Ive never heard of blue tail fire gourami either

Fancy name for either Colisa lalia, Colisa chuna, or Trichogaster trichopterus.
A better picture would help, but I'm going to guess Colisa lalia, Flame color morph.

Colisa chuna is the Honey Gourami, ususally the colors are more subdued.

There are many color morphs of Trichogaster trichopterus.

Color morphs are endless. Rams are almost as bad as Gourami.

I say Lalia. I could be wrong though. Maybe let it grow up a bit more first? I've seen some pretty funky looking gouramis who didn't look like any species when they're young.

Looks like a Honey Sunset Gourami, which is a morph of Trichogaster chuna.

Thanks everyone; I never heard of the "blue tail fire" stuff, either, but he's a great looking fish, anyway. I've been trying to get a better photo, but no luck yet. He's about an inch and a half, in size. I'll keep trying to get a pic. Thanks again, everyone!

His body shape looks more like the chuna than lalia to me

Alright; I've never bothered to mess with the camera too much, but finally got a good photo. He's obviously a juvie, though, maybe once he grows a bit his species will be become more obvious? Out of my six years or so of fish keeping, this is my first gourami.

Upon second look (photo) I agree. But let's compromise...chuna lalia anyone?

Hey, thanks, everyone! Now I know what to look for in females, for him. Tough find, though, as far as I can tell

Yes a Honey Gourami. Just the red morph of one. Nice fish. And IME they get better color the older they get.

Though the last photo I posted isn't bad, I can't seem to get one that shows his colors accurately. His colors are a little more soft and "pastel-ish"
, and much more attractive in person

Female gourami are hard to find because they are fairly bland, not as colorful as the males.
