LOL!

Gene, I've just googled and it could be...I thought we'd be a little too far North, and I've never seen them here before. Maybe someone released their pets...there is a third in another tree. They seem remarkably calm around us. Ken's gone out now to see how close he can get with the camera...

I never walk under any birds. When you live on an island, with sea gulls, you learn that lesson!
Gene, are you kidding???...do people eat these guys????

Actually.. they do eat them here. I've tried it once or twice during survival training. They are actually pretty good

They look like the mourning doves we have around here. The ones we have around here are pretty laid back, so the fact that they aren't acting jumpy around you probably doesn't mean too much. I think folks around here do eat them -- dove hunting is pretty big. Never had it myself, though.

you betcha, I've ate several this season, they are delicious!
we have a 60 day season, 15 per day limit.
Mourning Doves are the most prolific bird on the planet, 90% do not survive their first year whether hunted or not.

How many calories in Dove breast???:hmm3grin2orange:

Rue
10-17-2009, 01:10 AM
...the breasts are too small to worry about...they have no calories...

Besides...even if they did, by the time you hunt, pluck, and cook the d*mn things...you'll have used up more calories than you injested...

Sharon

OMG Rue...you've come up with the answer!thumbs2: I'm going to start hunting, skinning, plucking and cleaning my own food. By the time it's cooked, my stomach won't be able to handle eating any of it!!!:hmm3grin2orange:

quick and easy, pull the breast off, pull skin off breast, salt, pepper, flour, fry them up,:18:
My Grandkids will fight you for them

i would say either a gray pigeion or a mourning dove.

to cook one, pluck, skin and gut as you would a chicken. tastes like a beefy chickenthumbs2:
