Anyone know anything about this? It's a portable heater that will slash your heat bill up to 50%??? We have electric heat, and our electric bill can get quite high in the winter...

A coworker bought one a few years back.It will only slash your heating bills if you shut off your main heat and use just the space heater.Think about it.You will be running the eden pure and running your normal house heater,it would ultimatly cost more, just like any space heater. He did say it heated nicely, but it did nothing to cut his heating bills.

My parents got a wood-burning stove insert for one of our fire places two years ago and they pay something like 1/4 of what they used to pay for oil. We have a really big, old house (used to be a bed and breakfast in the 1800's) and our oil bill was HUGE. Now we just buy a few quarts of wood and the house actually gets so warm we have to open windows in the winter time! xD

It was 35 degrees last night and I had my AC on cause it was so warm in my room lmao...

My reasoning is that if the Infra Red Heater heats a space more cost effectively than the electric heaters, the heaters won't "cut in" once the desired temp is reached....thus reducing electric costs.

The thing about that is that they only heat one room.If you have whole house heat it will do nothing for the rest of the place. So,you either would have to have it in the room with the thermostat [then the heat wont come on thus the rest of the house is cold],or you keep it in a bedroom or other room without a thermostat [in which case the heater still come on to heat the unaided parts of the house].Its no different with any other space heater. We use them in our house and it simply adds another heating cost.Have I confused you enough:ssmile: ?

Oh, I'm not confused at all...LOL....Our house is "open concept". The Kitchen, LR, DR, are all open to each other. Our bedroon is on the same floor, but the door remains closed as we like a cool room for sleeping. Downstairs we have a more closed concept area with three bedrooms, family room, bathroom, but we spend little time in this space, other than to do laundry, and shower. The heat would not be turned off down there, but I would think that if the upstairs was heated with the infra red, we'd not be facing a monthly $500 electricity bill this winter...This bill is not heat alone, as everything here is electric(lights, hot water, appliances, fish tanks...you get the idea...)...but heat does cost a lot here in the winter.

If your entire heating bill is elec, then this may be the thing for you.Especially if you have an open floor plan.We have nat gas and our heating bill never exceeds 200 bucks elc and gas combined no matter how cold it gets.

Now you're thinking! I run my heat about 30 days a YEAR!

We have an EdenPure and it works great for keeping the basement warmer. Even on an open floor plan depending on how much sq footage you are talking about you may need more than one. The largest unit in reality will not heat more than about 800 sq ft. We use it in our family room downstairs. The nice thing for us is since I work night shift when I get home at 1130 I can have that on in the family room area and then cut back the heat to the rest of the house so everyone can sleep better. It is nice that the unit stays cool and I don't have to worry about the cats or our 5 year old touching it and getting burnt. No kerosene either. I would prefer if we had the space to put in some gas logs but the fumes from these are bad for the birds. Even better would be a wood stove. Hope that helps some.

I'm with Cristoff, I'm in an area of california (not too far away) that has similar weather, and we run our heater honestly probably a good bit less than 30 days a year, and once in a while we use the fireplace, but more for ambience than heating. I have the heater vents in my part of the house closed for when it actually is run, and my windows are always open. There's also maybe 2 or 3 actual days of the year I would love an air conditioner, and even then its still not over 95 degrees usually but we don't even have one. If you can deal with the crazy people come to Cali, lol.
