Hello all. Here's the situation- waiting and waiting for my fishless 40 gal. To cycle. It's been 2 months and no fish. So, I am going to buy a betta. Question is this, looking in to the future, what non-fin nipping fish could I put in with a betta ?

Platies, Guppies, cories, small catfishes, tetras, and small, less aggressive cichlids (such as dwarf cichlids) would all be fine companions for a betta. Assuming that the betta you want to add is male, be sure to avoid fishes with long, flowing fins since the betta may mistake them with another male betta and get in fights with them. Other anabantoid fishes should be avoided including gouramis. Fast moving fishes, such as danios, should be avoided as they may stress out the betta. Also, make sure that the companions for your betta stay relatively small.
Good Luck! :22:
