IF you could have any size aquarium, what would it look like? Tell us just for fun :)
what fish would you put in and how many or any other type of fish (type, size, gender)
What filters/heaters/decorations etc.. would you have
What would be the size?
What should be taken into consideration? (from fish to tank issues)

this is something really random but is interesting to know what some people's ideal aquarium would look like.

500g glass aquarium
2 oscars
3 plecos
10 bloodparrots
10 crayfish
a bunch of texas holey rock and slate on the bottom
2 rena XS1 canister filters, one is good for 400g, but i always double
metal halide light
150g sump
9 300W heaters
sand on one half of tank, pebbles on other
lots of plants, cabomba and java moss and java fern
huge CO2 system
I know this would really cost about $7000, but one day i'll try and get it

i have another project i want to do. My freezer in my basement is on its way out, and is old. The house was built around it, and its impossible to take out. When it dies, i want to hire someone to cut off the front for viewing, and have glass inside. It would be a 300g tank.
Im seriously going to do this idea in a few years

A three hundred gallon freezer?

yeah, the freezer will be dead, so once i get the dry ice out, i'll hire someone to line the inside of the freezer with glass and cut the front for viewing. The freezer is rectangular and opens from the top. I'll get some fluorescent lighting on top, a couple of rena XSI canisters, 5 300W heaters, and im in buisness

That would look pretty sick. But i know there is no dry ice in freezers. Dry ice is solidified c02, which needs to be kept extremely cold to stay in a solid state.
I don't think I have an ideal tank...at least not something that would fit into a normal household.
...but whatever it is...I want it to be self-cleaning...;)

all i know is theres ice in that freezer. So when it dies, just scrape out the ice, get the front sawed, lay the glass, silicone, add fish/equipment, enjoy

Thats just regular ice. Unplugg your freezer and let it melt and itll go away.

even easier. The best part is the freezer is rectangular with no odd curves, so i can use glass and not acrylic.

What is an ADA tank, and why are they so special?
...and I'll add...
...if (big if) I were ever to try SW...what I like the most is your regular clown fish with an anemone...
That's gotta be the coolest coupling I have ever seen...
And I like the tomato clowns too....

ADA = Aqua Design Amano
It's Takashi Amano's (famous Japanese planted tank expert) company. Basically the Ferrari of the (planted) aquarium world. ADA tanks are all rimless, with practically invisible silicone seams. They are extremely strong though and come with a 5 year warranty.
The stuff is mad expensive, but dang does it have sex appeal! ;)

I can't help it!
Take a look at those pics. Those are tanks in their STORE!. Yes, that is actually a LFS. DAAAAAANG that is high class. The cost of everything in the store could probably feed a small third world country for a month.

haha, for me its the opposite. I need mine to have alot of algae because of gouramis, and sometimes cleaning the aquarium can be fun, since when I do huge clean ups I add a live plant or something nice :). But the regular, weekly 25% water change isnt much of a thrill.:ezpi_wink1:

Btw, cocoa, if you ever had a tank like that, I can pretty much guarantee you that the plants will grow faster than you can rip them out....lol

Darn, thats right. Dont want the tank to look like that guy on the other forum you posted who had that problem, and it looked like a dead rat was in the tank.:hmm3grin2orange:
a bunch of fluorescents will probably be better. I cant stand algae. On my salt tank, the substrate is covered with it.
Is there ever such a thing as an ideal tank?
I don't know, hmmmm?
I guess, for me, it's not really the size of tank that matters, it's how you use it .... thumbs2:
Seriously, a few nice 90g tanks set up on custom stands. Maybe a nice Malawi tank, Tang tank, Discus/community Amazon tank and a nice reef tank.
I don't really care for half-round or bow front tanks because I find that it takes to much away from the fish. I might be old-fashioned, but a nice rectangular tank is the way to go.
As far as equipment goes, I'd have to say (for a 90g) two Eheim canister's with built in heaters, a nice hanging light with an automated light dimming system and lunar phase and an open top.
Quite simple I know, but that would keep me happy.

Size doesn't matter you say and then you start mention 90 gallon tanks.
I'd love three or four all glass tanks of about 40 liters but rather low and long with a discrete heater and a noiseless filter system. I'd use 'm to house different shrimp species and perhaps use one for a group of one of the smaller corydoras species.

Read the post again, and think about it for a moment....
"It's not the size of the tank that matters, it's how you use it"
I'm quite sure that most men have used this phrase referring to something else instead of tanks....:ezpi_wink1:
Yes, it was an attempt at a bit of humour, obviously I have failed, now I will adjourn to my corner of shame......

You can certainly achieve a great look in a smaller tank, but it is much easier to get that breathtaking response with a larger one. For instance, creating a visually appealing 10 gallon planted tank requires very careful choice of plants (like smaller leaved/moss varieties) and fish so that the tank looks bigger than it actually is.
Can I come out of the corner yet? Has everyone understood my feeble attempt at humour .... lol !
I promise that I'll keep my jokes to myself unless they're really, really, really funny .... :ezpi_wink1:
