First, let me say Thank You!! I truly appreciate the help. I know this must be irritating and redundant for you, as many people must come in here with the same issues and ignorance when the start an aquarium.
Let me start with what I have learned and what I did in response.
My black molly is now not as fat as she was last night, but there is no evidence of babies. Not sure if that means they're gone or she wasn't pregnant. But, I CAN say she wasn't constipated. She was the poopin'est fish out there! LOL!
I made the mistake (maybe) of assuming that the Guppies died because of the water quality NOT the Columbian Tetra. I felt badly for isolating him and I put him back in the tank.
Within an hour another guppy was dead with a chewed-up tail fin.
I sat and watched the fish. The Columbian Tetra was significantly bullying the Bloodfin Tetras. He was quite aggressive and one Bloodfin was swimming oddly. I immediately put him back in isolation in another tank.
I started watching the other fish. The black female molly was violently attacking the white male molly. Chasing him back and forth (fast) across the tank nipping at him.
I decided put the 3 Guppies and 1 white male Molly and put them in the 10G tank to add to the Crown Betta we have in there now (there is a divider between them, the Betta with 1/3 the room). One of the guppies look like it *MAY* have been nipped on his side before I got him out of there.
I went to a FISH store, not a PetCo or anything, and got the Bio-Spira (I think I have the name right). It was refridgerated. I stupidly only got one dose, so I will have to go back SOON I think.
I came home and did a 20% water change (I'm thinking I should've changed more). Then I added the Bio Spira to the new water and added it to the tank. I don't know if it helped any but I poured some on the bio wheel.
Here is where my numbers are today. The first set were from the late afternoon, and the last set are from about 2 hours after the water change. (BTW the water in my 10G tank is still perfect, but with the 4 fish moved I'm watching it closely). I haven't gotten the master test kit because it was 20% more expensive at the fish store. I'm going to PetCo tomorrow to get it there.
Friday morning 4/6/07:
Ammonia .5
Nitrate 20
Nitrite 5.0 (TOXIC!)
Total Hardness 120
Alkalinity 120
pH 7.6
Friday night 4/6/07:
2 Hours after 20% water change and adding Bio-Spira
Ammonia looked to be about 2.0
Nitrate 20
Nitrite 5.0 (TOXIC STILL!)
Total Hardness 120
Alkalinity 120-180
pH 7.2
I was wondering if I'm on the right track. I don't have a cyphon yet. Should I change more than 20% tomorrow? Should I add more of the Bio-Spira? I did not add more salt today.
Thanks in advance for the tips and help!
