View Full Version : Dormant eggs

I’m new to this forum,
Would like someone’s best guess,
I have two preformed shallow ponds,
Connected by a deeper narrow stream,
I remove all fish,
To winter in an indoor pond,
Mid summer the comets spawned,
It has been two plus months,
I am still finding small fry in the stream,
Comets that were brought in,
Are, now changing color,
Do eggs, go dormant,
Have actually found larger juveniles,
They seem to hide in the silt,
So what’s up with these little fry,

Not to my knowledge they don't go dormant. Are you sure they're actually fry? Did you accidentally leave a pair of goldies out there?

Easy enough to over look,
A little fry in a big pond,
Then again,
The smaller one,
Is still near transparent,
As they are when they first hatch,
These smaller fish,
Don’t go into the downstairs pond,
I have an aquarium upstairs,
To accommodate the little guys,
This latest find,
Is by far the smallest in the, tank,
Side note,
We are in the country,
True enough,
When bringing in the fish,
I discovered,
One,
One lone crayfish,
He is now in the downstairs pond,
Apparently cleaning up the excess food,
There can’t be much excess food,
I don’t heat the downstairs,
That environment has to be a constant 55 degrees,
So I don’t feed the fish very much,
Yet he seems busy walking along the bottom,
Doing his thing,
He’s too big to have come in by bird,
Or frog,
Having an interesting season,

Neon,
Liked your pictures,
Very clear water,
I’m more of a naturalist,
My tanks form algae,
Where the sun shines in,
Downstairs no sun,
No algae,
To bad for the fish,
Fish seem to like eating algae,
All my goldfish,
Love to root into the stones,
Actually any cavity is fun for them,
The only real concern is fecal matter,
So I keep the substrate thin,
So when I clean the bottom,
I can disturb the bottom enough,
To vacuum the solid debris,
As a part of a change of water,
I don’t monitor the temp,
Goldfish seem to be hearty,
Then again the ambient temp,
Is fairly constant,
Downstairs the ambient temp is 55,
Upstairs the ambient temp is 70,
I adjust the feeding accordingly,
I am always impressed when,
Someone gets clear pictures especially video of their fish,

Thank you !
You can try to move the tank where the sun won't hit it and also add some algae eaters like otocinclus.

I see no problem with the algae,
I do clean the front class,
So I can see the fish,
Quite sure,
They don’t really care to see me,
Like the silt in the outside pond,
The fish use as a hiding place,
Algae gives, the fish something to graze on,
As with most wild animals,
Their always searching for food,
Algae on, the side of the tank gives them,
Something to bother with,
I keep floating plants in both tanks,
So the fish can clean the roots,
The only time these fish are still,
Is when the barometer is, low,
Indicating rain or snow,
Then they all gather under a shelf of some sort,

Imo and experience algae's fine as long as the fish look fine. In all my goldfish ponds and tanks there's algae.

All is well,
In all the tanks,
Last night,
We had snow flakes,
Went downstairs with a flashlight,
In the pitch black of night,
The salamanders were active,
Northern red bellied snake,
Had been active earlier yesterday,
Frogs gathered,
Fish being still under a shelf,
All signs of a weather change,
Sort of like the dog getting nervous,
Just before a summer storm,
I’ve read somewhere,
They make antistatic coats for dogs,
Who are sensitive to the electricity in the, air,
Air pressure effect a fish’s swim bladder,
All animals seem to have some kind of,
Internal indicator of weather change,
More then just an acute attention to their environment,
Supposedly the warmer the air the more a cricket will chirp,
Don’t know,
Keep them downstairs where it’s cool at best,
Started out to say,
The little fry seems to be doing fine,
Stays near the air stone,
Trying to figure out if that’s an indicator of sorts,

Ricci I am happy to hear you are having a good time with your goldfish thumbs2:

The real reason I posted here though was to ask you about your writing style. I can't seem to help but read all of your posts out loud lol. Its almost as if you are writing poetry rather than normal - I like it but I was just wondering why this is :ssmile:

My writing style,
Ongoing effort,
Simplicity,
Minimalist,
Creating images,
Partly,
Creating a feeling,
In a different venue,
Creating emotion,
Always meant,
To be spoken,
I want,
A person who takes the time,
Visiting these words,
To be emotionally connected,
A poet writing prose,
For me,
Would be like
A fish out of water,
Thank you for noticing,
Thank you for taking a moment to connect,

Your style,
annoying,
not conducive,
answers unlikely,
literary forum,
this is not,
when joining the melting pot,
it is polite to melt,
if help you want,
speak normal you will,
and response you shall receive,
else,
remain ignored you shall,
people do not want,
to decipher to help.

Aren't all the beatnicks deceased?

To each their own
But why should
All the pot melt
And become
Nothing more but liquid
Dripping through the cracks of time
Whether you
Shall help or not
Irrelevant
Time taken
To be rude is
Something remembered
Unlike the liquid in the cracks.

My apologies for the offense that shall probably be taken, but if you do not wish to decipher, simply do not. Numerous ESL people come onto this forum, as well as ppl wjho typ liek dis, and no one complains, yet plain English, in this minimalistic form, arises and there is a subtle uproar.

People do complain.
This isn't a case of ESL, this is someone purposely using a different form of prose. That is his right, of course, but my point still stands: you will get far less support and assistance then simply asking a question that doesn't require deciphering.

I'm not stating that it is. And I could see your point before. I was merely concerned that you did not see it as his right to type as he wished. Thank you for clearing that part up.

Perhaps you missed this (http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/aquariumforum/showthread.php?t=53353) thread!

Oh, and I believe GM72 and Lady Hobbes are moderators.

i have seen that thread, and yes they are moderators. but as far as i am concerned that does not give them or you the right to critisize the op's style of writing. if it bugs you so much put him on your ignore list.
