View Full Version : Sesame street overstocking

Hey guys, for those of us who grew up watching sesame street, there was a lot to be learned. In retrospect though, how much of what we learned was wrong? Remember the scene where Ernie says that the fish were going moom moom moom? Well, I now know that the tank was hideously overstocked.

And even recently when they added "Elmo's world" They show him keeping a goldfish in a little bowl. Now, while I am aware that these things work for camera.. and fish care isnt the point of the show.. how many kids are going to want goldfish in bowls and grow up believing that its perfectly ok to do? They are just perpetuating the old belief.

Anyway, sorry for my rant, you know how sometimes something just hits you and you need to get it off your chest?

Bert and Ernie went fishing and Ernie calls..."here fishy, fishy, fishy." My daughter tried it on a fishing trip when she was little...It doesn't work!!!:scry:

Yeah...I also get annoyed when pet care isn't portrayed properly...

As far as childhood memories go...my name isn't mainstream...so I remember watching Romper Room and just waiting for her to look through the mirror and call my name...

...and she never, ever did...that's when I learned that TV was 'fake'...I was 4 years old...:hmm3grin2orange:

" "Romper, bomper, stomper boo. Tell me, tell me, tell me, do. Tell me, Magic Mirror, today have all my friends had fun at play?" She would then lead into, "I can see Scotty and Kimberly and Julie and Jimmy and Kelly and all of you boys and girls out there!" Kids were encouraged to mail in their names, which would be read on the air."

...I never knew someone had to send in my name...

I wonder how many others had their eager little faces pressed to the TV screen, and were never seen...it's a wonder we're not scarred for life!!!:hmm3grin2orange:

"Those are gills Ernie, that's how they breath"

"Oh wow, they must really like to breath, Bert."

Wow that show was stupid...

The myth just keeps being perpetuated....I don't know how many times I have seen a TV commercial for something or rather and there is a goldfish in a bowl on the kitchen or living-room table....I always feel like screaming at the TV when I see that!
