So I removed (threw out) the carbon from my biobag while I was treating for ich. Since my tank is still cycling, I shouldn't put in a new cartridge yet correct? Is it ok to have the filter running without carbon for an extended period of time? I have a new biobag I can put in but don't want to mess with the cycle.

I normally don't use carbon but I think it should be used during a cycle. It does help remove toxins. You also need to replace it to remove meds so you should add it back until you tank has a good cycle completed. If at that time you decide you don't want carbon, then you can get rid of it.

Thanks for the reply. So putting in a new biobag won't set the cyle back? I'm keeping a close enough eye on the ammonia as it is.. just want to be sure ;)

i use carbon, but its not really necessary. I took it out of my 10g cichlid tank, and nothing happened

Don't use a new biobag. That will set back your cycle. Just dump another packet of carbon into it.
