Hi all,

Been offered a chaca catfish and cant find alot about it apart from the usual writeup on planet catfish. I know quite a bit about it already, but wanted any opinions of keeping these species.

Any opinions?

If you like oddballs get it. It is best kept in its own tank (a ten is fine). It will probably only ever eat live. Very cool and unique, but obviously not the most active piece of living mud you will ever own.

is it actually true that the chemical composition of its acid reflux stomach and the expellation during eating can change the ph of the water?

I have not heard it in that detail, but I have heard that they bring down the pH in the water over time (faster than normal biological processes supposedly). Water changes can prevent this though.

he looks cool!!!!! :hmm3grin2orange:

Love unusual fish like this although my wife doesnt seem to think so!!!

Also, what does he actually eat? I only feed live wich is in his favour given the nature, but is it purely feeder fish, inverts'?? Any ideas?? Have no details on culinary in any of my books, and planet catfish only state, live food unless trained to take frozen...

anyways, will post some pics up as he arrive on thursday :-)

Cheers

I think fish and shrimp would be better, I would be surprised if it ate bloodworms.
