That's #4 if you're keeping count. He's another veiltail. I thought his coloration was amazing, so I *had* to get him. He was in a tank with some kind of rainbow fish at the pet store though. At least it was better than one of those stupid cups that don't get changed more than once a week. Anyways.. here's some pictures!! I named Picasso. Sorry the pics are pretty lame. He is a bit camera shy and I didn't want to bother him for too many pictures. He is in a 3 gallon with 2 african dwarf frogs.

I wonder what the heck you'd call his coloration. These pictures are the closest to natural light I could get of him. When I looked at him in the sunlight, he was bright red and aqua. My camera flash just makes him look really light aqua. And when not enough light is present, his tail is bright red in some pictures. I've never seen anything like him before.

Gorgeous colors. I can certainly see why you called him Picasso.

Every betta I've got changes colors once it's in the tank.

All of mine have too. He shows all those colors no matter what environment he's in. I can't wait to see what he looks like in a healthier tank. He's still settling into the 3 gallon. He is looking greener now.

Is there a way to predict how the coloration will change?

I have no idea. I don't think there is though. Artemis, my pink dalmation vt, started out being straight pink then the dark red spots came in about a week after bringing him home. Shadow, the black/green/red/blue/gold vt hasn't changed much. Just brightened. Michelangelo, red vt, hasn't changed at all. So far, Artemis has had the most dramatic change. I wonder what this guy will look like in a week. He almost looks marbled to me, and marbles are famous for completely changing colors.
