So I have a very pretty water wisteria in my 20gal high and it is growing quite well (fast), however it has countless roots coming off all it's 'branches'. It doesnt look bad, but was just wondering if I can trim these off? The plant is also spreading outward instead of up, and it literally takes up half the aquarium. Can I prune off any branches and replant/discard? I'll try and take some pics of the tank.
Thanks!

Okay, I have these in my 29 gal. I love them, yes in fact you can trim them below the roots that are sprouting out and re plant them, I've also found that by sticking the branch itself in the dirt with no roots works as well. You can look at my tank in my blog if you'd like. They are the tall ones taking over lol, I'm constantly having to clean them up so they don't take over. Good luck and I'm sure you'll do fine.

Nice looking tanks! So will it hurt if I cut off some of the dangling roots? Seems like ever since I started dosing with Excel a week ago, the wisteria is going crazy!
I attached a few pics of my tank!

Wow very lovely Tank... wisteria is one of my favs.. I've accidently broken the top off the roots and stuck it back into the ground and it seems to grow. About a week ago I decided to put one in my large ciclid tank just to see how my little buddies would react.. LOL, they never dug it up but within one night they ate all the leafing off of the plant. I put the plant into a smaller plant tank and am testing to see if it will come back. The plant is extremely tough. I'm sure you can trim the roots back and it will still grow.

Very nice tank. You can hack away at the stuff it will keep growing.

Thanks for the compliments! It's definitely fun growing all these plants...always wanted to do a fully planted tank. I am just hoping that the micro sword will eventaully spread out. I put in three clumps and you can kinda see it's spreading a little. Maybe I'll be a few more clumps of it...pretty cheap.
Any other suggestions?
Side note...seems like the 3 assassin snails are helping control the snail population thumbs2:

I have a clump of the micro as well, it doesn't seem to spread, I like it though so thinking as well on getting a bit more. I'm in the process of wanting moneywort (grows little small yellow flowers under water :1luvu: ) and dwarf tears (which are supposed to spread nicely) I buy through [Only Registered Users Can See Links.] because they are super reasonable and I love the way the plants come.
I have a bunch of trumpet snails in my tank but ever since I put my marimo ball in the tank I've been plucking them out. I'm starting to see alot less of them. I'm not so big on medicating tanks, I like the natural way thumbs2: I have some fern (although can't remember if it's aqua or peacock)and primrose.. I love my Amazon sword :1luvu: .

I'm lucky enough to live close by to a great place that sells plants (they have a separate plant room for all their plants. [Only Registered Users Can See Links.] I have both amazon adn brazilian swords in my 30gal which are nice. I have one that was just about dead (no leaves) and I transplanted it and it is now thriving quite well and is almost 12" high! Might move that to my 20gal planted...we'll see.
Have I mentioned there are around 3 dozen baby kribs in that 20gal? If you look closely you can see a couple blurs hehe...They will soon be put in the 30gal to grow out and I'll reintroduce the dad in the tank since his tail fin is healed.

The closest place to buy plant here is petco... they have atleast 3 tanks with plants in them. Some are healthy but most are not. Not to mention none that I really want lol.

I got a few new fish yesterday. A baby bristlenose, couple of zebra danio's and 2 serpae tetra's. the bristlenose is my fav. got him for 2.99 :D

Yea certain plants if you buy them they grow so fast you can plant it and break some off and put in another tank and then still have to throw some away. I brought a bundle of wisteria and it got tall and i broke them down put some in another tank and it got tall enough i could hang a few inches out the tank if i wanted to..I cut the bush in half and not its twice as thick and short like a bush. Nice hiding area now
