S. smiti, S. batesii, S. abolineati were the closest ones I could find. I'm probably assuredly wrong, lol, but I figure it's worth it for you to take a look anyways, just in case.

Never saw any synodontis anything but brown spots. Even his dorsal fin is different. He's neat, tho.

I'm not very well educated about any form of synodontis, but is it possible at all that's it's a juvenile coloring of some species?

I did a little searching around... check out syno. nigrita, syno rufigiensis and syno. afrofischeri.
Hope this helps!

Thanks very much Crispy. I got an ID on it.
Yes it's a HYBRED. So even cross bred fish are now coming into the hobby through our suppliers.:spam:

I was thinking hybrid, but that's an odd pattern even for a mutt. Most of the hybrids I've seen were similar enough to both parents to sort out what they were mixes of. Yours, I have no clue what went into the mix.

How awesome to have something not seen on the market. Maybe you should get a few more (if they have more) and try to breed them.

He was the only one. They know at my LFS I like the unusual.
