Anyone else do it? I know some of you shore-dwellers have to, it's the law if you live close to the ocean, and i know our friends north of the border can't walk a mile in any direction without sinking into a lake :) Post stories/photos from your trips here!
Anyways, story time!
I went out on Tuesday with a coworker. We met at the dock at 6am and had the boat loaded by 6:30. We were at our spot 20 miles off-shore with outriggers out and 7 rods in the water by 7:15. First fish was on at ~7:30 and it just kept going from there. At one point, I was fighting a fish as he was doing the same. Then 2 other rods went off with hook-ups and we just looked at each other and laughed; 4 fish on, and only two of us to catch them.:hmm3grin2orange:
The water was a bit colder then we expected, around 66* so the Mahi-Mahi and bonito we were targeting were nowhere to be found. We did end up, however, catching 31 of the 33 False Albacore we hooked up to. One got off during the fight and the second flipped off at the boat. These fish are so impressive, they are perfectly built for swimming at amazing speeds. They are such good fighters, my shoulder was killing me at the end of the day.
Anyway, here's the pic from the day. Only took 1 picture with the fish, as they were all about the same size, give or take an inch.

Thats an amazing looking fish end up eating any of them?! Tuna fish sandwich sounds pretty good right now. Bonita is one of my favorite fish to eat wish it was more available around here.
My hard drive crashing left me fishing pictureless except for this one on photobucket.

Was down at the wharf earlier today fishing, a huge school of mackerel swept through like 4 times in a row, people up and down the wharf were pulling in 4-5 at a time on shrimp fly rigs. Unfortunately I'm not a big fan of mackerel too greasy/salty, and theres not much fighting to be done pier fishing for em, its more hauling in deadweight, so...

I have been fishing ever since I could remember. My dad is a HUGE fisherman, so we would always go. He knows everything, so thats fun, lol.
Recently he bought a new fighing boat and we've been out a few times. Our relationship is not very good, but its hard with him. At least I like to fish with him! bringing us a lot closer, it always has.
Anways I love going fishing! eating your catch the same day!

I fish quite a bit. My dad and his buddies are hardcore fishermen. Usually we're catching yellow perch, smallmouth bass, sheepshead, pickeral, and the odd silver bass or white perch. I lived on Lake St. Clair for 15 years. Fishing is quite popular around here since we're surrounded by the Great Lakes.
I usually don't take pics when I'm fishing, but this was a nice channel cat that I picked up on a summer night. 9lbs. Second pic is me with a pair of rainbow trout (the best fighters around here).

Just smooth dogfish. They caught fish all day. What else do you fish for in the bay with 20 mentally handicapped people out on their yearly fishing trip? Last year, they only caught tiny seabass and no one knew they were catching fish. This year, at least they knew they had a fish.

So you just drifted for them? or drop lines on Structure?
Always thought they were just free roamers, not sure how you target them.

Fished the Cape May Rips today, another great day as usual. about 40 boats out there, but we found a spot on our own rip and started pulling in the Stripers before people caught on. Got to the boat at 5:15am, fishing before sunrise.
[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]
The End result: 4 Stripers were kept between the two of us. (2 a day limit) and the rest we began to throw back. My two fish are the one in the front of the picture, and the one in the middle left. 43" and 38" :D

Nice catches.
Weather here has been getting cold and nasty. Havn't been able to go for muskie (they're in season now). Still trying to get back out on the lake before the snow flies though.

ever since I went trolling in the Indian ocean I have always wants to get a boat. Mostly we would pull in tuna if trolling or red snapper if we were bottom fishing, but you get the occasional barracuda or grouper, or the always fun wahoo...
After 3 hours we were running out of room for tuna
17418
the sharks were more than happy to give us a hand with that problem.
17420
not a bad pull for 4 hours. The rest of it we gave away.
17419
Shore fishing-not nearly as fruitful. We did get a lot of trigger fish though.
17421
and it was all delicious.

I like fishing, its just finding the time to do it, so its been a LOOOONG time. Last time I went, me and a few friends got some stripers off shore in Jersey. Good eating! Prior to that my most adventurous trip was in 1994 when my uncle, me and one other went on a fly in trip to the Northwest Territories for a week, about 300 miles from the Arctic Circle. 40 man charter from Winnipeg 3 hrs north, land on a natural sand runway, then a 1943 DeHavilland Otter float plane to the outpost camp. Place is only open 10 weeks a year beacuse of weather(ice doesn't thaw sometimes until early June!), and only took 40 people a week at the time. Caught lake trout and arctic grayling. All catch and realease except for one laker that we cooked on shore for a lunch with everyone else in the camp. I think then the lake record for lake trout was 54 lbs. They have monster pike there too, but we were too far north at that time. I still get the newsletter and pike over 40" seem like a dime a dozen. Got to see tons of Caribou also. Someday I'll try to scan the pics and post them.

I always like fishing from jettys, especially Indian river inlet in De.I have caught some real brute rockfish that way and the added bonus of having slippery rocks and surf to contend with makes any fish you catch that way seem so much more fun.

false albacore are not really good for eating, generally condsidered trash, food-wise, reallly gamey....lots of people joke that a cat or dog wouldnt even touch it, but they are really fun to catch. i am pretty sure they are in the mackerel family, but are a little fatter and have that tuna look to them. they are considered to be the best fighting fish around on light tackle and you better have a good drag and a full spool.
first shot is a king salmon i caught near fairbanks, alaska
second is a red fish caught in galveston, texas
third is an arctic grayling on the same alaska trip
fourth is a bass caught somewhere between austin and houston, tx
all of them were caught from shore

Nice fish Zappa, I hope you recover soon from that broken neck, or whatever the heck happened to your neck in those pics:hmm3grin2orange: .
False albacore are fun, but yeah not too tasty. I remember grilling one a good while back right out of the water, and even then, not that great. Yep they're in the mackerel family.

Won't find a better fight on light tackle than a False Albie. wecaught them on the troll that day going for Bluefin Tuna, but usually am catching them on 6-7 ft spinning rods spolled with 8lb braid.
